[360, PS3] Crysis 2

Anyone else see this?....

Whats Changed Since the Crysis 2 Demo?

Crytek RobJ explained they were in the very, very last processes of debugging Crysis 2, only had a few more days before their own deadline. “The demo was compiled a while ago and a lot of things have been changed, and lots of bugs have been fixed” he added. As they were in the final stages before the game was completed to go for approval, he was to attend work on the Sunday later that day (so thanks for staying up).

I asked what else had changed since the demo compared to the game current play at work, he answered “Well the first thing I noticed it looks a bit different, we have a new strength texture/effect and also a new cloak effect. Another change that you’ll see is that they have improved the kill cam on the current version of Crysis 2.

When they are saying final stages before approval, do they mean approval to go gold? With the game being due March 22, doesn't it seem a bit early to apply for gold when they could have another few weeks left to tweak or polish?

Exactly. Though I'd argue that in the lighting departament C2 is indeed the best by far :D

Oh I have no problem saying the same in regards to C2.

My wording was off, I personally have issue claiming any game has the best in a category such as "best graphics", "best gameplay", or especially "best game EVAR!!" One of the best, I'm fine with though.

If an effect can be proven to be the best by a technical measure, then I have no issue with this, even if the tech can still produce ugly results =p

I argue that the lighting in C2 is tied with MLB: The Show. It could be argued that the lighting in MLB: The Show is better because it does it at twice the framerate. :D

But is it running 100% real time, or is some of it pre-computed?

Then, talk about what was incorrect about their opinion. Of course, that's a tough road to travel.

Actually it's not tough to call out how their opinion is incorrect.

What's worse is you can label it as an "opinion" when people should be showing/telling factual information about games or tech.

Edit: Beaten by L. Scofield lol

Another Player mentioned that they had black screen when they joined a map, the Dev answered this and said they had fixed this problem. They also pointed out that alot of lag issues had been fixed.

The main benefits of 100% realtime lighting are intended for developers. Making as many changes and you like and not having to wait hours to see the results is an excellent improvement over other methods. Allows for more experimentation and polishing.

Gamers benefit too of course, having everything lit in the same way makes the graphics more consistent overall. There's also day-night cycles, destructible geometry, etc...

They still "fake" some of it though:

Will the SP have day and night cycles? If not it would make more sense to bake some lighting into lightmaps simply because it gives you far better looks and saves performance as well. I can imagine the PC version would benefit a lot more using cryengine 3 but on consoles it's perhaps doing more harm than good.

Crysis 1 did have changes in lighting during levels, it'll probably be the same in C2.

Apparently it's a gameplay decision. I suppose it's due to Free Radical not having much experience with vehicles/big maps.

Maybe SP is the focus? Will this be a direct sequel to the first or just a spin-off? It seems so little is known about the game other than the name and the engine.

I don't know what to expect from this game it seems like a complete change in direction from the first.

Not a direct sequel as far as i know a novel is coming out telling how they went from the island to new york.

Dev said sp is like 10~12 hours long but consider they mostly do longer about it i reckon it's like 6~8 hours for normal players.:???:

There're 19 levels in total (or 20, if you count the intro cinematic level). I honestly don't think each level will only be 18 minutes long, even if you rush it.

IIRC sequel with story taking place some years after Crysis/Warhead.

I think the multiplayer will grow onto most once the suit powers are learnt and players are able to use it tactically and on the fly.

I dont know why some people are disappointed with Crysis 2's demo visuals. Considering its running on a 360 it is actually very impressive.

The framerate is consistent and runs very "smoothly" even though its 30fps. The effects and lighting is brilliant and looks much better than I expected. I have it very high in the graphics department. Easily one of the best looking FPS on the console.

When you stand still and wait for everything to load, it does look good. But when you're walking around and shooting, the things it doesn't do well overshadow the things it does do well. Constant geometry pop-ins, shadow pop-ins, texture loading and texture loading after you switch weapons. The last might be the most distracting couse the weapon holds about 10% of the screen.

I'd rather they have more maps out-of-the-box to choose from for the lower maximum than split the development and testing and end up having only a couple maps specifically designed for larger groups. Surely the former is where most people play anyway, at least judging by some stats from Halo3/Reach Multiplayer playlists.

Is the playstyle of Crysis really conducive towards larger groups of people? The tactical nature of the suits seems like it'd be diminished if it simply ended up becoming a clusterfuck. If the larger number is simply so that the map isn't so empty, then maybe the designers have done it wrong and should go back to the drawing board.

New trailer looks amazing. This is PC footage obviously since I don't see any aliasing, pop ins and etc.

Dang thats hot. Rewatched lots of times. Cool song too.

Theyre showing lots of media now. At some point I imagine they back off sadly. Look at Bulletstorm, only 1 or 2 levels of SP have been shown of that and it's out in 3 weeks.

I hope they can get 75% of that good looks in console SP.

And once again I suspect they may be mixing footage. Some of it looks like console.

I can't see how anyone can say that Crysis 2 will be the best looking console game...isn't it a bit early? because from what we've seen sure the game looks nice and tech-features wise might be impressive for a console game but it also has some serious shortcomings - mainly the ugly IQ, the annoying LOD and the low resolution particles which btw all 3 areas are worse than you average high-profile game.

From what I've played all the good and impressive things that this game does (GI, OMB, HDR e.t.c.) are dragged down mainly by the IQ and LOD problems...in it's current state I don't think that Crysis 2 will hold a candle against games like Killzone 3, Uncharted 3 and Gears of War 3 IMO.

Killzone 2 had some very aggressive LOD as well as low resolution particles. Sure, this was back in 2009, but people didn't seem to mind it back then.

Yeah some of the footage do look like console so I hope the final build campaign would blast me away since I'm only interested in SP. I wonder if the game is only set in New York or will we travel to other states at some point.
