[360, PS3] BF:BC2 and BF 1943 online

I bought it last night, couldn't find any servers for the first hour and for the second hour I couldn't connect to any of the games that were found.

I played around in the training mission for a bit and it seems like it should be fun if things start shooting back :)

I wonder how much this game will convince others to release 'Full-ish' games for download.

I know after having played 1943 I'm a lot more interested in getting Bad Company 2. I hadn't played a Battlefield game online since Battlefield 2, so it was a cheap way for me to get back into the Battlefield mindset.

How's destructibility? Just cosmetic?

it's just like BF:BC

ie, you can break through fences, doors etc and if someone is hiding in a building (bunkers are indestructible) the wall will blow out and the enemy exposed so you can shoot him if the blast doesn't kill him.

BC2 will have the Frostbite 2 engine which has far more destructibility.

X360 server count to double today

Xbox 360 will have around double the servers we have now by 4:30 PST (12:30 GMT)! This will be done in stages so please bear with us.6 minutes ago from web

Yeah, I wouldn't say the destructibility is just cosmetic, because you can destroy cover, but you can't totally level every building, and the walls blow out in a specific way.

It's out on PSN too now. Anyone here playing that version? Is it worth getting if you already have Warhawk, I guess would be my first question.

The comments on Gaf are great. Lock ups, lag, lost connections, cannot connect, etc.

I think I'll just play some BF:BC tonight (which is $20 BTW).

That's what I've been wondering too. I'm going to pick it up in a few hours and will post impressions. If it's anything like Warhawk (and I love that game) I'd say it'd be worth getting simply for a more lively community.

I finally got on for a game this evening...

First impressions are pretty good. It's good fun, and it's nice that there's a few planes around so you do occasionally get the chance to fly one (unlike the helicopter in BC....) although I noticed the planes still occasionally bring out the glorious "I'll shoot my own team mate because he got the plane before me" battlefield twats.... that said they don't handle that great - much room for improvement even with a basic flight model.

Good fun though, I'll have to put more hours into the game to decide if it'll dethrone BF:BC as my main online multi game

I have not had any issues at all like that except for the initial could not connect, not enough server deal. once in a game it's smooth sailing and I stay connected to game after game.

Also on GAf are tons of people LOVING the game for its fun. Yes I still enjoy BF:BC but this is a much different flavor and I played so much of BC that it is now stale to me.

Glad people like it! For those with problems, we are adding servers like crazy :) Way more downloads then what we expected / planned for.

There is also a very lively official forum here with discussions with the rest of the devs and the community about everything related to it.

I can't imagine how messy this must be with FF off.

I love it

I can't count how many times some numskull ran me over with his tank in BC or shot me because I took his precious artillery gun or Heli

this game has a unique feel and the FF just makes it that much less frustrating, especially with the plane whores. ;)

sweet.... nice job repi, thanks. good luck getting the servers sorted out. once that happens people will calm down and appreciate what they have.

I played the ps3 trial for about 20 minutes and it is much like BF:BC. As many have stated the graphics don't look as good as BC and 1943 is more arcade than BC so it will appeal to more people. I messed around in the tank which seems too small and ran around capturing bases, but didn't get a chance to fly. I'm glad they are on the server issues, but for a game like this for such a cheap price they should have expected very high demand.

I used to play alot of 1943 on my PC, this was an easy buy, would be cool if they added the vietnam version at some point :)

Negatives:

Ran into some bizarre (presumably) lag related issues where I was locked in place first inside a tank and then out. Also had strange jumping location deja-vu like issues until I exited the match I was in and rejoin another (PS3 version). The second match I joined did not seem to have this problem. Hopefully this will go away after the initial launch craziness.

I very much dislike the matchmaking approach. As far as I can tell, it is impossible to specify what map you want to play which is super lame. Definitely could use fleshing out here as this seems like a step back from even BF:BC (and waaaaaaaay back from Killzone 2 which is not too bad).

I find the remote explosives extremely hard to get my head around controls wise. Although it's not this game's fault, going from Killzone 2 to BF 1943 is a nightmare with respect to control layout.

Still lacks a countdown for grenades (doesn't seem to matter how long you hold them, they still take as long to go off when released). I also found that some actions take more than one button push to trigger if they were blocked in the previous mode (i.e. reload when running or grenade in some situations). It's not horrible but it seems worse than it was in BF:BC and I died multiple times because of it.

Positives:

Fun. Deep. Oh, and it's fun.

=)

Hard to tell yet how much replay there is but I expect I'll get my money's worth from it. Less complicated than Warhawk which I never got into myself.

Personally I think that BF:BC multiplayer is better but it also lacks the wide open feel you have here. Hopefully BF:BC2 combines the best of both games.

Cheers

Do the same thing for Battlefield Vietnam but using the Bad Company 2 engine? That would be awesome. I love the music playing from the vehicles.
