Amazon, Gamestop, Target, Best Buy and Walmart have PSVR2 at $200 off today. The bundle with Horizon as well. So that's $350 or $400. Maybe there are even more retailers running this sale.

I checked and all the stores still have the PSVR2 in stock. It's also still available locally for me at all except Gamestop.
I almost bought it but eh the only game I want to try is Horizon. Using it for PC VR might be interesting. I'm waiting on the end user reports on that.

I’m not sure they’d do this or if it’s even possible with their current setup. The OLED displays they use are too dim for pancake.
PSVR2 kinda flopped so I don’t see why they’d release a new one with just new optics. The optics are not what holds back PSVR.
I don't think I will buy another LCD headset.
Pimax Crystal is super bright, has rich color, and is amazingly clear but its local dimming is nothing compared to OLED for dark scenes.
I'm not sure what the answer is for lenses. Fresnel is ok. Aspheric lenses are nicely clear and free of glows, but Crystal has a barrel distortion sweet spot and chromatic aberration. Pancake loses lots of light.
