Dang, Monster Hunter 3 on PSP has a chance to hit ~4 million units for December. It's almost amusing that MH3, a PSP game, could become the best selling game of this generation for a Sony gaming machine. 
It'd be amusing in that a PSP game sold in 1 territory may sell more than WW sales of any single PS3 game. Although COD: BO (WW sales on PS3) may give it a good run for its money.
And Wii has regained the YTD lead for home consoles. PSP firmly holding the lead for handhelds. Pretty even battle between Sony and Nintendo in both handhelds and home consoles this year.

Why is that? There are no PS3 games that have sold 4 million copies yet?
Actually GT5 apparently has sold over 5.5 million and MW2 is also over 4.8 million. I expect black ops will get there as well if its not already.

Sure there have been. But at the rate MH3 is going, it should surpass past PS3 titles in WW sales. COD:BO has a good chance of doing better. Of course, sales could hit a wall and fall off a cliff. So there's no guarantee that it will. But just the possibility that it might is what I found amusing.
Remember I only said it "may" and "could" not that it "will," based on the first 3 weeks worth of sales.

theres a few, even a demo, GT5P, has hit that mark!!!
GT5 is well on track to break 10million (I dont think a halo game has reached that mark yet have they? though a coupleof COD games have for the xbox360)
In honour of ranger I might start doing a top10 worldwide, i.e. european countries incl (just in case next time the companies release there shipment numbers he doesnt get a huge shock, + hear the same stuff .... but but but .... the xbox360 is outselling the ps3 on NPD )

Wii seems to have passed the PS3 YTD on account of last week's sales.
I dont think after November NPD PS3 is going to outship 360 this quarter...
In the past 360 has usually shipped ~2x their NPD sales for that Q. Sitting at ~300k, ~1.4m, +Dec, lets be conservative and say 2m Dec, that =3.7m, so 360 shipments can be guesstimated very roughly at 7.4m, that's a high bar for PS3 to clear (it's never shipped that many before, is selling (a lot) less in Japan and the USA (the two places we happen to get reliable hardware sales) than 4Q 2009). Of course Sony claims they are still on track to hit 15m, but they only need +400k over 09 the last two quarters to do that.
Also I think GT5 is closer to 3m currently. I think latest figures was 600k UK (maybe?), ~400k USA Nov, ~500k Japan?. Lets say the rest of Europe =2X UK=1.2m, lets say it's up to 800k now in USA, I get 3.5. OK there could be variance there, 3-4m. Probably closer to 4m.
I'm pretty sure a Halo has topped ten m by now. I believe Wiki had Halo 3 at over 8M in Jan 2008, surely way beyond that now, considering that like GT, it is a title that will basically sell at greatest hits price to new hardware buyers forever (though Reach may cap that somewhat now).
And GT5P 4m sales is from PD's website, meaning it's a shipped figure.

Interesting, looks like Wii will end up on top in Japan again for home consoles, although it's basically even for the two. And NDS is slowly eating away at the PSP lead, although again, basically even for the two.
And another 360 Japanese exclusive that we'll most likely never see in the US. Who says there aren't any Japanese developed exclusive titles for X360 in Japan?

Still one more week left, looking at the trend DS could still end up on top, but yeah its all very close either way.
