Xbox One Slim

Is it legit? The design looks fan made, or MS designer loves apple's old Braun style. Not an easy injection molding, it needs seams, relief angles, or rounded corners, or something.

Ekim also claims the power supply for the Xbox One S is built-in, a first for an Xbox console.

Not a first. The first original Xbox had an internal power supply too.

Anyway, looks sexy. Not sure I will buy it though, might wait for Scorpio.

It does look nice, well except for the color preference. This should hopefully set the direction used in future MS Consoles. The question I have is if this will still be as silent as the Xbox One or if it'll be a screamer like the PS4.

It might be possible to instead integrate a DisplayPort 1.2 (present in all AMD GPUs since the HD 6xxx series) - HDMI 2.0 converter chip on the motherboard.
Some Skylake motherboards supposedly do this using the MegaChips MCDP2800 while supporting HDCP 2.2 (although I don't know if this relies on some specific feature of the Skylake display engine):

Length width and height

I don't know about depth but using the USB ports (USB 1.0 I think) on each system as a measurement reference i compared the Xbox One Slim to the PS4 and Xbox One Slim is just a few centimeters smaller in length and height. Not able to determine depth however using the circular airholes ontop they could probably be used to determine the depth by comparing them to the size of usb1.0 ports.

huh.. I predicted they might switch to a 1TB drive as the new standard as an excuse to maintain a certain price point (aka $349.99). But this thing has a 2TB drive...lol... So in my mind this thing definitely will not be a low price like we had hoped.

No idea why they felt the need to go from 500GB to 2TB...

That along with the other marginal improvements...I have a bad feeling about what Microsoft might do to this in terms of price...rumors have come out that it might $450...which would be an epic mistake.

It's been confirmed it is not $450.

40% smaller... does that include external PSU that is now internal? Console is still noticeably larger than PS4.

The scale is quite obviously off in those. You can use the optical drive slot as a rough size placeholder for the XBO and XBO-S. The XBO-S should be much smaller than is being shown in that picture. You can also look at the relative placement for the Eject button for the optical drive for a rough guide. At most the width from the left side of the console to the eject button should be the same on both. And that isn't the case in that picture.

I'm guessing they shaved off ~1.00 (+/- 0.10) inches from each side. Then scale the rest accordingly.

the fact that there was even a rumor at that price is a little scary...I was really hoping for no more than $299...highly doubt it now.

This is basically like a combined Xbox 360 Elite + Xbox 360 S model released at the same time.

Yes, I expect the XBO-S will still be wider than the PS4.

The PS4 went with an unorthodox design for a living room machine. Most living room electronics (like the XBO) are wider than they are deep. The PS rotates things around 90 degrees so that it is deeper than it is wide. That gives it the illusion of being quite a bit smaller than it actually is when viewed from the front.

XBO - 13.5" x 10.4" x 3.2"
PS4 - 10.8" x 12.0" x 2.0"

The PS4 is deeper than the XBO is wide.

Looking at my XBO more closely I think it's more likely that somewhere between 0.6" - 0.8" has been cut from each side of the XBO.

It wouldn't surprise me if the XBO ended up somewhere around

XBO-S - 11.75" x 9.5" x 2.4" (purely guestimated 40% smaller specs)

That would be almost exactly 40% smaller than the XBO or about 3.85% larger than a PS4. However, due to the orientation of the machine, it'll still appear to be a fair bit larger than the PS4 when viewed from the front of the device.

It also gives more surface area on edge when it's in tower position. Something something something stability.

Somebody else's interpretation of the size...

Looks like the controller might have received a size reduction too ala Xbox Controller S.

well the removed the external brick which makes me mad. I hope they don't remove the aa batteries cause I love those.

Yeah I'm worried about that too. We'll see I guess. But no, there's is zero chance of 450 or even 400. The 2TB HDD suggests It might be 349 though, where the current 500GB XBO is 299, which IMO would be a mistake. This needs to be priced 299 for maximum impact.

No idea why they felt the need to go from 500GB to 2TB...

Umm, you say that like it's a bad thing! 2TB is awesome and a bigger leap than expected. The more HDD space the better it's definitely needed on this generation.

BTW, I dont even know what that HDR support is...what is that? A upcoming/niche TV standard that isn't popularized yet I presume? I mean I know HDR but not in terms of a output feature...

Anyways I've been beating the drum for a while, it's hard to rescue XBO's hardware but the best measures they could take were a slim version and a lower price IMO. So they are doing exactly that at least for sure the former, very good moves IMO, though I dont love white consoles would prefer black.

BTW I remember some old B3D post speculating they would physically have a hard time doing a slim XBO because of the DDR3 traces being unwieldy or something. Good to see that wasn't true.

So somebody above "calculated" this is smaller than a PS4? Impressive, I figured it would be about current PS4 size. Edit: the other comparison above looks more similar to PS4 size.

Assuming no slim PS4 surfaces at E3 (and I haven't seen rumors so, unlikely), interesting they beat Sony to a slim version by a while. Both companies are usually on a similar time scale with these IIRC if not Sony leading the charge. Caveat of course that PS4 starts much smaller.

MS must not be thrilled this picture leaked. Steals their thunder.
