Those who crave the 'advantages' that apparently are only available to those with above a 2000 posts, or whatever the limit is, (custom titles in particular) tend to not care all that much about the quality of their content.
I'm just saying... :devilish:

Did i mention how i love this new forum?! Apart from the up-to-24-minute-wait-till-it-gets-through when i post long things.

They have all sorts of mod-addons... One turns participation (rep, posts, membership duration, etc) into spendable points, where you can customize your or other's titles further (bold, italics, glow, colorized) or buy them silly "gifts". It's a very expandable system.

Wow, makes the forum into a kind of MMORPG.

The magic post count number seems to be 1000 posts, and as I mentioned there are 108 Senior Members as of now. There are, however, a few members that have this number of posts that are not included. Some I don't quite know what rationale they're excluded by, but fot others it seems quite apparent.

The ironic fact appear to be that those with reputation down in the gray or red does not qualify, and will have to rep-whore themselves back to above +10 points if they'd wish to disable reputation. Thus all 'If you dislike red dots so much, why don't you disable it?' are out.

Also: If you're among those who haven't disabled it yet, but can, there's the issue where so many of the members that would have held the highest 'rep power' have opted out. Thus if one were to end up below the 'magic limit' the board might change your status and it'd take a lot more positive comments from the regular members, who by design can't influence the numbers much to get back up again.

Edit: Apparently it's now, at least for the regular members, only possible to approve of a post and not to disapprove. I'm not a huge fan of the reputation system in general, and now it's inconsistent in addition.

Oh well... I hope the quirks gets worked out if it is here to stay, and that there will be some clarity as to what criteria apply for what functionality to spare us threads like this in the future. I'm sorry for whatever noise I have contributed to in that regard.

can those with disabled rep give rep to others?
By default I think it's a total opt-out, so the answer is no.

It would appear that they're experimenting with mods now (the option to disable negative rep only is, I believe, not in the standard package), and I'm sure there are hacks/mods available to tweak the behaviour in question though, so either way the one to answer this for sure would have to be Dave.

thanks for all the great info Zaphod, much appreciated.
De nada. Anyways: You could always 'rep' silence, or whoever, to answer that (his) question as I obviously can't see the same things that you as a Senior Member can. The strength of vBulletin is that it's so tweakable, but that also means that knowledge of one administrator's panel doesn't always carry on to the other.
