WOW 360 on HDTV for the first time

Some games actually render to the overscanned area (seems to be games that had a quick PAL release following the NTSC release, I guess so they don't have to alter the resolution once they translate it?) while some will just render a smaller image. Most of my games do render to the overscanned area, but I've noticed some, like Burnout 3, don't bother drawing any pixels in the area that's typically overscanned.

BTW, there's always the option to go with the TV of your dreams (for the money) and then get an external scaler.

Burnout 3 is the only game I've seen on the 360 with overscan compensation. The vast majority of original Xbox games don't have any over scan compensation either, while PS2 and Gamecube games generally do. I'm speaking from NTSC land here BTW, I've never played a PAL game.

As for an external scaler, those can give you better results but it won't do anything to help you achieve 1:1 pixel mapping on a display with fixed overscan correction.

That is done becuase brocasts often has crap along the edges which no one would want to see.
I just noticed that a guy's head was cut off from the top so I fixed it, I also messed around with it and found no bad spots.

Of course it depends on what you are watching, hence my use of the word "often" rather than "always." And then it depends on how much adjustment you can do as to whether or not you will ever be able to see the problem even when it is in the signal.
