Witcher 2

Sorry it took so long. Had a busy weekend. I had a chance to take some screens last night with US enabled. The FPS count is in the shots, and Vsync is limiting the FPS to 60.

All in all, 1.3 did bring a great improvement to US with nvidia users. It does occasionally dip, but mostly stays near 60 FPS. Flotsam forest, however, is a lead weight on your frame rate.

*edit*

One more thing, here's an example of a closeup with and without US enabled:

Is it just me or is it very difficult to discern very visible differences between ubersampling turned on and off? My 285 SLI has it's work cut out for it since I am running everything maxed out at 2560 x 1600 but it still looks as good as your screenshots. What I am curious is if you Nvidia user guys are doing any special tweaks in your SLI profile or not with regards to AA and stuff.

Dresden there's a sticky post called "Eternal Thread of Screenshots of Ridunkulous Quality and Size" for a reason :)

Without US enabled, textures look grainy and shadow dithering is blatant. With it enabled, it smooths textutes out, making them appear more crisp. I have a bunch more on a jump drive, that I can post, sans US. I'll take some comparison shots, tonight, though, of the same image. It might be a little easier to detect, that way.

Normally, I would post them in that thread. However, Lightman asked me to post them, so I decided to consolidate my shots into this thread. I'll post the remainder in the screenshots thread.

Nice thanks for the explanation Dresden. I had a quick question about the armor Geralt is wearing though....what is the name of the armor? It could be I can probably find out the name if I checked out Geralt's inventory but I have not had time to do so yet. :(

No problem. I'll post a few more, this evening.

The armor is called "Blue Stripes Combat Jacket." It's part of the DLC, which went free after 1.1, I believe. I was worried it was the best armor in the game, however it isn't.
Deciding to sleep with the Succubus in Aederin gives you an even better armor set.
A merchant opens up, which is also part of the DLC that shipped with the game, who sells some nice stuff, too. This time, I decided to play the game on Hard. Insane is a little....insane. Thus the name, I suppose. The idea of perma-death doesn't appeal to me. That armor set makes the game A LOT easier, even on hard. Yet your dependence on alchemy is emphasized even greater.

well i finally got this game, first of all its extremely difficult. i started it on hard, but couldnt even get out of the prologue. i eventually dropped it down to normal and then later easy. fighting the guys at the gate, right before you open it. after you get some skillpoints in the combat tree it gets alot easier though. graphics are spectacular like everyone has mentioned.

then i got a few levels under my belt, decided to take on the nekker cave, i had bumped it back up to normal at that point, and got completely demolished. i think this is a game that im going to take the dialogue path as much as possible to avoid fighting.

a few beefs:

i wish there was a way to just tone down the bloom, and not turn it off completely because it looks really nice in some areas. but its totally overkill in others and makes it difficult to figure out whats going on.

also im really not digging the medallion function, it has a cooldown and for the most part i just want to use it to easily locate corpses, i much prefered the alt key, like every other aurora game.

and then the import function, which didnt seem to accurately represent the factions i had developed in the first game, but i can let that slide.

Dresden, there are even better armors in game, but they appear in Chapter III ;)

PS. I haven't done that 'thing' with Succubus on my first play through which is another incentive to play this game again! :devilish:

@snarfbot: combat isn't that hard when you get used to it, you will see. I did my first play on Normal but my brother did it on Hard straight away! He moaned few times about some hard opponents which I found easy but it was his choice!

@snarfbot, yeah that fight in front of the gate with those dudes took me a few tries on Normal but I got it...apparently I am a dumbass and didn't realize that other than the Stun magic move I had access to other abilities!

I just fought a bunch of nekkers and had gotten slaughtered. But you know what? I love the fighting so retrying does not feel like a pain in the butt. It is ALL about timing and planning...god I love this game...and Flotsam looks AMAZING. I just can't get over how amazing this game is!

I've read it doesn't work with patch 1.3 so I can't test it myself.

Yeah true I forgot that all those mods on that site are kind of useless since the 1.3 patch. By the way any tips on combating the wraiths in Act 1? My witcher is on lvl 8 and he just learned the riposte which I have no idea how that works and also my silver sword has not yet been upgraded. I think specter oil is a must, I am taking the Swallow potion as well and I have the Hunter's Armor on, I am thinking they still kick my ass and the room is rather large where I am fighting in so is it a matter of using Yrden and trapping one and slashing the other and dodging out of their way? Is it possible to Axii them in to fighting each other?

To Riposte properly, block as your opponent begins to attack you. The icon on your target will change, and when that happens click attack. Riposte as often as possible, because there's a window of opportunity to kill the enemy instantly, although small. Wraiths are a pain in the ass. Use Yrden to trap them, and specter oil is almost mandatory. Tawny Owl and Swallow should be perpetually buffing you, so make as many of those as possible, even if that means gathering herbs. Blade oils are really useful. Brown oil is important for your steel sword, because it increases bleeding. You can keep enemies dotted and barely do any fighting.

I read today that enabling US and DISABLING AA can improve the performance of US, because with US enabled, it basically corrects antialiasing. Let alone whatever control panel options are being forced. Also disabling SSAO, as well, can help. I'm going to give those a whirl when I get home.
