Witcher 2

They released the changelog for 1.3 patch for the game. I am sure they still have a few weeks to let the patch cook before it gets released. What I do have to wonder though from reading some of the changes is why didn't they do them in the first place? Also I second that it would be awesome if CDPR releases a DX 11 patch with even higher res textures and general DX 11 awesomeness to make an already excellent looking game even more excellent!

That would probably be enough of incentive to finish this game 15 more times .

Maybe they can patch in a better tutorial and an easier mode for someone who only wants to play for the story and making choices. :p

LOL true indeed. I also like the fact that they keep throwing in extra content in there like additional quests and what not. I think it will be a year and then this game will be FINALLY finished. I have a sneaky feeling though that the Xbox game will come out with a bunch more DLC and then that content will be backported back to the PC.

A semi-recent post to The Witcher 2 Website has word on the upcoming version 1.3 patch for The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, warning that the new version of the action RPG does not yet have an ETA. They do offer a change log for the patch, which includes details A Sackful of Fluff, free DLC included with the new version

To be completely honest, while TW2 is a marvel of gaming, it's ridiculously demanding. Enabling Ubersampling is a dream, and people who do it are probably running 3-4 GPU's. I have two GTX 580's running SLI, and the frame rate with Ubersamplinng enabled is absurd, considering my system. I literally blast every other game with unimaginable settings. I play Bad Company 2, maxed, with x32 CSAA, and the FPS never drops below 120 FPS. I hope at some point CD Projekt optimizes TW2 with either full DX11 support, or tweaks the Ubersampling to be more friendly. That being said, there is no way to change the shadow settings. Dithering appears regardless of how high you have the shadow quality set to, making the shadows a little ugly. Even with Ubersampling, there are traces of dithering. I've even delved into the configs and tried forcing a few settings, but nothing really changed. What happens when you change the texture memory from it's default of 400?

A quick question: There is the ability to import a character from the original game, but what does that change, storyline wise? Does TW2 actually utilize the decisions made in the first game?

dresden if you disable uberampling and force supersampling (as its supposed to be the same thing) what fps do you get

Actually, I never tried that. Force it through the Nvidia CP, and disable AA in the game menu?

yes
or do you enable normal aa in game and in the nv cpl select enhance aa setting
i cant remember as im now on ati

The Nvidia CP has three options:

1) Let the 3D Application Decide
2) Use the Advanced 3D Settings (which you choose)
3) Use my Preference Emphasizing: (a slider between performance to quality)

I have mine set to option 3, emphasizing quality.

Option 2 allows you to force settings, including deciding which AA options to force. It's been a while since I've used ATI, so I don't exactly remember how the CP works, but 2 is Nvidia's equivalent to forcing options. You can enable supersampling or multisampling. I'll try that, then post my results.

Well, I forced Supersampling and noticed it looked a lot better, in terms of the antialiasing. However, with the addition of v1.3, released yesterday, CDPR tweaked nvidia user's ability to run Ubersampling and maintain decent framerates. If you're an nvidia user, you'll notice a huge boost in performance after installing 1.3.

That is what I like to hear...though I don't have your badass 580s yet :(

I'll have to post some screenies! They're working overtime for me, and if I could recommend an SLI setup, I would definitely go dual GTX 580's. Keep in mind, you can also tweak the config by editing the Ubersampling variable from 2 to 1, which will reduce the sampling rate. That's also a nice performance tweak. Now all we need is full DX11 support :)

I would like to see them use DX11 to bring smarter AA support. That is, they could only oversample the things that need it instead of the entire effing screen.

Now, when I've got second HD6970 it's time to revisit Witcher 2 world for second playthrough. I will try some with Uber SSAA, but I fear my new CF will still be too slow :p.

Dresden can you post some SS with FPS counter from your setup for comparision? Best from Prologue so we can easily get to specific spot and using game configuration tool to adjust gfx settings (no manual ini editing).

I suggest trying to force ATI's SSAA through the driver if ubersampling is too heavy.

Definitely. I meant to start over, anyway. I kinda wanted to select Roche's path, and wanted to see the intro on my new cards.

I gave up playing the first Witcher because it keeps crashing I think it's not too happy with Nvidia's latest drivers. So does someone have a saved game from the Witcher EE that they could send me? :( Preferably the one where Geralt was neutral all the way through and had got the most badass steel and silver swords the game had to offer...pretty please!

Anyway I am running the game maxed out at 2560 x 1600 (sans ubersampling have not tried it yet) using configs from this thread and from the net. All I can say is that game is STAGGERING and how much I hate motion blur. I have not gotten far because honestly I am a bit overwhelmed with all that is going on and getting used to the game mechanics and all that but what a looker! I think CDPR needs to stop working on the crapbox version and immediately get DX 11 patch in there and with uber super awesome textures everywhere enough to bring people's machines to the ground. I am tempted oh so tempted to go ahead and order a pair of MSI Lightning Extreme cards right now just to see what it would look like with Ubersampling enabled!
