What games should I get with my PS2?

Yeah, Xbox drive is even more silent, but PS2 drive (at least on my PS2 model) is very silent too. When I close it behind the glass of the locker where I hold consoles, I can't hear it working anymore. DC on the other hand... requires professional grade sound isolation :p

yeah, PS2 can be a bit loud, especially when watching horror movies with lots of silent moments in them (The Others)...and the noise comes from both the DVD player AND the heating fan...

also, i noticed this summer, the wheather was really hot and i was playing some games and on some occasions i am certain i could hear the fan step up a gear, spinning faster and get even louder, probably to keep the system cooler... but hell it was cool, i thought my ps2 came to life...

Do I need to change some basic PS2 configs like Texture mapping etc???

How can I use a headphone with PS2....?

nah, the texture mapping option in the configuration menu is only to enable bilinear filtering when playing PS1 games.

for headphones, u'd have to plug them into your TV, there's not "headphone jack" on the PS2 itself

You mean the Headphone + mic that can be used with Socom?
You plug it in the usb port.
I don't think you can listen to CD's or DVD's with an usb headphone connected to PS2 though (haven't tried myself, but I highly doubt it).

headphones:

or, alternatively, u can plug the PS2 to a surround system using the optical cable, then plug the headphones there. now that would give a perfect sound quality... i mean, perfect as in "the best quality u'll ever get out of the PS2"... of course, it wont be surround, just stereo, still the best, since the optical cable transmits the pure digital signal to the HI FI system.

*surround sound turns me on*

Actually many AV receivers have a 'Headphone Theater' soundfield.
It should give some kind of surround sound with even headphones, and I've heard it can be quite good too.

My AV receiver has it too, but I have not tried it yet.

london-boy: I barely dare to imagine what you change into when you're playing Z.O.E.2 with surround sound ;)

hopefully locking-trigger-happy-jvd wont read this:

well, i end up doing something else rather than playing ZOE2.... there u go...

liquid snake LIVES in an arm ... that totally spoilt mgs quasi-realworld story.
To be fair, it's likely the nanomachines in his blood that is left in the hand, that have stored his memories an knowledge.

Still, I'm sad they didn't went with mechanical hand on Ocelot which was their first idea.

nanomachines store memories?
still whats with the silly fortune deflecting nuclear missile part, or howabout the angsty gay/incest bit?

somehow MGS2 story felt more like an overcooked hard to swallow egg, compared to MGS1. KCET "overdid" themselves in trying to make the story "more" epic/hardcore/dramatic etc.

I would love to see MGS3 really being a cheeky sidestory for a change rather than another Kojima superior story novel fest. 8)

She had that EMP device that did it for her? As for the last deflection, I have no idea, but somone obviously enabled her device for one last time. Gay/incest bit was only weird if you look it through the videogame lens where such themes are always avoided for no other reason that it's considered that only kids play games. It was an awkward moment, for sure, but that's because of the way dialog was held, not because of the theme itself, IMO. Same goes for the hand part. They missed the opportinity to make that scene cool and made it weird instead, due to dialog.

How to use the optical output for sound??? Do I need a cable...what kind of cable...? Any good links?

First you need an AV receiver/amplifier that has optical input.
Then you need an optical Toslink cable. There are two varieties, a mini Toslink and a regular Toslink.
You need a cable that has a regular Toslink connector on both ends.

You'll find an example here:
http://www.monstercable.com/home_av/audio_cables/digital_interconnects.asp

Optical Toslink cables can be found cheap (around $10 ore even less) no need to go for a high end cable.

In addition, you need to enable the 'Optical out' in PS2 setup. I don't quite remember was it in the main setup, or in the DVD setup that you get when playing a DVD movie.
Also your AV receiver might need some setting up to recognice the optical input.

I don't remember any incest in Metal Gear Solid 2. I mean, the sister liked the brother, but they were step brother and step sister, and the brother had a relationship with his step mother, but technically I don't think any of that is incest since there is no blood relation...unless it is different in the Japanese version...
