What games should I get with my PS2?

I bought PS2 (without NA) today, :D , just tasted MGS2, SH3, GT3 and SC...they are awesome. Before that I had DC. So, let me say here that DC IQ is nowhere near PS2.

...because you're only comparing games that were undeniably well-made and catered to PS2's architecture. Basically you're taking the 'shining examples'.

Try Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Its PS2 version looks horrid compared to the DC version. Same with Resident Evil: Code Veronica.

The game I have most played since is Need For Speed : Hot Persuit 2.....this is an incredible game  ...so FUN....great sense of speed....chasing....spectacular action.....I remember good old NFS (PS1) day :D ...if Burnout 2 is better than this then.... :devilish:

Burnout 2 completely smokes NFS:HP2 in the technical department, in just about every way imaginable (framerate, textures, lighting, effects, speed, 480p, DPL2, you name it...). As a gameplay experience they are both great in their own ways. NFS2 has undeniably better presentation (menus, etc just feel a lot more polished) NFS:HP2 also has nicer looking cars (asthetically)

Yeah, instead he should be trying games poorly ported from DC to PS2... Way to judge a platform. I'd say if you want to have some kind of equal comparative footing, you should try Guilty Gear XX (PS2) versus the Guilty Gear X (DC) or Soul Calibur 2 & VF4:Evo vs SC1 and DOA2... at least games developed with each platform in mind.

Not to forget DOA2, shimmer galore~

Though we have to note what type of TV and connections you are using first. ;)
A not too healthy display will result in blurry graphics on areas of filtering in DC games.

Oh no, there it goes again.
Is no thread safe anymore
Is this the only thing he can discuss of.
Nope, unfortunately not. I am disgusted to see, how a single person could mess up the signal:noise ratio of a forum.

IF that person is me...oh please.... are you guys not bright enough to follow a topic, or are the PS2 groupies soooo darn defensive over thier system.

My advicer to you hollers:

READ before you start jumping onto someone.

What the H*ck?!?!
Did YOU read the topic? Is it not 'What games do you recommed for PS2?'
Are you losing your mind, boy?

To be frank, Deepak opened the can of worms by saying that image quality in PS2 games he numbered, looks better than in DC games, and we all know how much that goes against the usual commotion here. That comment was just asking for trouble :p

Exactly. Even then i tried to play things out nicely.
That is always why Marc +1 for me, even though he is ++Sony. ;)

Maybe certain people should review their last posting on this forum, many posting are only unnecessary noise (derailing, flaming, bashing, unnecessary comparisons, cheeky remarks) and very little signal (news, constructive discussion, corrections of misinformation, etc).

Ok, fair enough.
Must be me then, who's losing one's mind.
...and there's only cohnaep reason that's causing it ;)

haha.
irony that people are talking about derailing topics though.... ANYWAY, back to WHAT GAMES SHALL I BUY FOR MY PS2. Hmm, how about WE7? Yeah that be nice multiplayer game.

Guys! calm down....do some Yoga :D ...

BTW, I didn't find FFX that visually impressive...!

Marc, does B2 play better than NFS:HP2??? Is it more fun...more addictive?? One more thing....does B2 or NFS:HP2 feature night racing??...I remember it was so fun in NFS (PS1)...

MGS2: I am stuck....I have to take photos of MG:Ray from 4 directions...I took 1st one...how about rest three? BTW, that Marines' speach is so fun!

GT3: Great visuals...but I prefer NFS:HP2 type of games over it any given day.

I am calm, but annoyed ...

Both are fun, both are worth it, they even go nice along; NFS:HP2 is more about getting chased, BO2 is more about offensive/riscy driving and the resulting crashes :)

GT3: Great visuals...but I prefer NFS:HP2 type of games over it any given day.
Guess you are more the arcade racer type, nevertheless GT3 is deeper and offers more value for it's moeny

I don't think anyone has mentioned Baldur's Gate:Dark Alliance, for a 2 year old game it still holds up really well. Has a very good co-operative mode. I would recommend playing it on the hard difficulty setting from the start.

Burnout 2 is the best arcade racer on the PS2 by a long stretch.

If you are a fan of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings, then the Two Towers tie-in game is a lot of fun.

Avoid FIFA go with PES.

WRC is much better than Colin McRae.

Space Channel 5 part 2 & Fantavision would be my 2 left field choices. It rather depends on how much you like these genres.

The PS2 does not really have any good FPSs in my opinion. Timesplitters is okay.

Maximo is a good old skool style platform game.

Actually, comically enough, I'm the one who really triggered the flames 8) But that's a digression. I make no bones about it - the games that are designed for PS2 and had several years' development time, from the top-tier companies... do look damned awesome, and easily slap the DC's best silly. I was just pointing out that it isn't a standard case... but then, one can also pull DC examples that are really terrible, so it all evens out.

Anyway.

Deepak - how much of Final Fantasy X did you play? The artwork and effects, just like in all the previous FF's, improve as you go... later in the game, more of the fantastic hi-res character models get used at once. Also some of the more elaborate areas (Bevelle, Luca, and the temple with Shiva come to mind) look really beautiful (even though you can easily point out spots where there could've been more polys... or big time shimmering... FFX is an example of Square's masterful art direction).

BO2 features night races, not sure about HP2. Anyways, you will certainly get your jolt of night races in the upcoming NFS:Underground which looks smoking :)

MGS2: I am stuck....I have to take photos of MG:Ray from 4 directions...I took 1st one...how about rest three? BTW, that Marines' speach is so fun!
Hehe, that speach [p]is[/p] fun. You need to take photos from each side of the MG Ray, one from the front (you did that one, right?) and one extra that will show a sing 'marines' on the MG Ray. When you take all four, just go to the computer console and Otacon will take it from there.

Two more games that you shouldn't miss - 'Frequency' and 'Amplitude' (which is a sequel to Frequency) Those two are easily some of the most fun I ever had with a videogame. Amazingly addictive and rewarding.[/quote]

Few more observations.....

PS2 runs so much *cooler* than DC....DC gets hot very quickly.
And also that annoying GD-ROM noise is gone, PS2 is extremely silent.

MGS2 is extra-ordinary, people say it is movie like, which is THE GOOD thing IMO, and btw there ain't MANY cutscenes. It is so much engrossing than games like SC. You can play it as a stealth or action game....as you feel like.

I agree with you 100% on MGS2. I think it's a brilliant game with some story flaws that at the end of the day never really bothered me.

And yeah, PS2 drive is a lot more silent than DC. I used to put DC as far away from me as possible when playing game like Shenmue, because the loading was so distracting.
