What do you think of Contra: Shattered Soldier?

I've been curious about this one. It looks great - but hard. Still, I've been itching to relive those days of playing Contra III all night on the Super NES with my buddy... Fighting for our lives to finally finish the damn game.

Anybody played Contra: SS yet? What do you think?

I've heard generally positive things. It supposedly captures the spirit of Contra very well! It's ultra-hard, they say.

I never tire of the original contra, and I can't wait to get my hands on SS....reviewers are hard on side scrollers....the game is certain to rock

Yeah, very hard and pretty short. However, you'll be playing it very long until you develop the ninja skills to be able to finish the game with only three continues it gives you.

Pretty short game, well typical of Contra but difficulty ? Maybe difficult for mass market, but I don't think mass market buy into this game. I think this game is just abit too straight forward for old school.

Finished it with one life. Not enough bullets pattern, to make me forget after several tries.

But I hoped they continue making games like this. Even better yet, make it using high res sprites instead this 3D crap. I like this game, but I still prefer the old Contra for some reasons, which I play quite often.

Congrats... And I keep reading how the game kicks people's asses. You are one of those people, I guess that can beat Metal Slug 3 on one life (seen it with my own eyes), whereas the rest of us has to use at least 10 continues )

Yeah I like Metal Slug series as well. I did beat it with one life several times, but most times takes two, but I only play them in Arcade though. And the difficulty setting wasn't set to max, so beating it with one life isn't that great. I've got to get myself, some Metal Slug kit.

I think there is a PSX Metal Slug X, but I heard there are alot of slow down (the arcade had slow down already) and stuff, so I never actually gotten around to playing it. They need to make a new Metal Slug for sure

V3, if you are into emulators, you can play MS1, 2, X, 3, and 4 (4 being the worst in the series, IMO as it's handled by different team)

Thanks for the responses. Yes, I think I'm going to pick this game up after work tonight - despite the fact that I've picked up all too many games just lately... (NFS, Burnout 2, TimeSplitters2, Tekken 4.)

I have a feeling that my friend and I are going to have a howling good time with this beast of a game! Ten years... It's been too long since we last tackled a Contra together.

There is MS 4 ? I am into emulator, but I don't have the rom, so I've got to buy it first. Also I don't have an Arcade stick for PC, you've to use Arcade Stick because joypad and keyboard are abit slow for the game.

MS 2 is the one with Independence day last level isn't ? Haven't play it for long time. I don't think I played MS X, I might have played MS 3, but as often as MS 1 & 2.

Anyway I want to try completing it, with one life without using any powerups, bombs or the Metal Slug. I never able to do that I heard some people can do it.

I just got it! Traded in four games at EB (including a couple of real stinkers) and walked out with the new Contra for $4.21! Yeah!

Yep, its out, for an almost year or so. Not made by SNK anymore, and pretty much the worst game in the series.

Oh, JOY! Contra is BACK! I'm playing this thing and loving it - this old-school stuff has me grinning and giggling like a little girl!
