What are you playing now? [2007-2018]

I'm somewhat ignorant of the whole Halo thing. What was wrong with Halo 2 on the PC?

Generally the complaint is that aside from resolution, it's no different to the xbox version. For a "DX10" game launched whenever it was that's pretty bad. It also lacked co-op which I think the console version had.

DING! DING! DING!

The MasterChief and a few other models were upgraded, texture resolution was higher but still when compared to other 2007 games it was severely lacking in graphics. Gameplay wise, not having COOP was a (familiar) blow. I'm also still mad about Gears of War and Resident Evil 5 not having local coop on the pc version. For a game that is released 3 years later than the console version, it was too little too late.

Yeah it obviously wasn't a DX10 native title since it was an Xbox 1 game. One of the weirder things I've seen Microsoft do, restricting it to Vista. Was that seriously their plan to get gamers to migrate from XP? It's like these decisions are made by douchebag finance majors who have never played a videogame in their life, and have no idea what gaming on Windows is like. I wonder how many $$ in sales I could have made them if they'd hired me to tell them whether that was a good idea or not.

While we are at the topic of Fallout, remastered soundtrack of the first two games is available for free download here.

I'm currently playing The Ballad of Gay Tony. F'ing brilliant game! At least as good if not better than the original GTA4. I finished played Lost & Damned recently which while still a great game was very limited compared to TBOGT. And short too.

I'm behind the curve a few years and last night picked up Fallout 3 with Pahncrdi Fallout 3 Enhanced Edition modpack. I think I should leave playing good games a couple of years after release more often as then I'll surely have good enough HW to turn everything to eleven and get all the awesome user modifications to make the game best that it can be :)

Quoted for wisdom! I let civ 5 breathe for a few months after its disappointing release. Started a new game last night, 22 civs, 28 citystates. Pretty satisfying so far! Diplomacy seems hugely improved and the war AI is no longer completely useless. There are still some issues like my allies declaring war on civs nowhere near them and never moving any units closer to them... but overall, it feels deliciously diplomatic with lots of intertwined support pacts.

Dragon Age Origins has got me hooked.

Don't play the sequels!! Just watch them on youtube. I enjoyed DA:O but found the others a complete aberration.

Somewhat related, and on the subject of Fallout 3, I agree the game is pretty good. Its not legendary like Fallout, but the voice acting and other art asset budgets are clearly destroying the world design and branching budgets. Bethesda is just getting raped by Bioware and Rockstar in the animation and acting departments. I hate to go all casual gamer here but my wife just laughs at Fallout 3 and I can't blame her. I hope Bethesda chooses one path or the other and sticks to it. The hardcore approach is my preference, but if they're going to have voice acting they'd better step it up or go home. Witcher series as well, interesting game design but the voice acting and writing are so embarrassingly bad that I can't blame anyone interested in drama (or any woman) for hating it from the very first scene. If you want a piece of the movie business (again, I wish they'd give up that ghost), bring some real talent to that very competitive and subtle field.

Sequels? There's only one sequel (so far).

As for DA2, well, I rather enjoyed it. The combat is much improved for most classes. It's more balanced between the three choices, and in general has been tweaked to be faster-paced. The story is decent. They did stray from the usual cataclysmic world-destroying narratives you so often see in these sorts of games, but in a way that's a bit refreshing.

The one gripe I have about the game is the environments: they get quite repetitive and seem very limited compared to DA:O. It makes the whole game feel cheaper. On balance I prefer Origins, but not by a huge amount.

In preparation for D3, I'm playing Diablo 2 and LoD, this time with the high res mod, I finally got it to work. Man, I wanna get down on some Battle.net action, so if anyone plays D2 still, lemme know! One drawback from the higher resolutions is the skill pane becomes microscopic, and there's some tearing at far distances. I wish there was a way to change toe resolution, but not the scale of the skill pane and the inventory.

Been playing for the last week the arduous game called, "Sort my Game of Thrones LCG cards." The HBO series combined with the impending release of Dance a few months ago pushed my GRRM fanboy-hood into overdrive, so despite my typical avoidance of card games I dove into this one from Fantasy Flight. It's a Living Card Game, so no random card distribution in endless piles of booster packs. Buy the new chapter pack each month and get the exact same cards as everyone else. That unwashed pimply little punk who beat you at the last FFG tournament? It wasn't because he saves his school lunch money and buys every rare available.

The gameplay mechanics are really good, and just deep enough to be meaty without frustration setting in for new players. Wife and kids were out of town visiting a friend two weeks ago, and to show how I still party with the best of them. . .I invited a friend over to play with me. My Martell sand snake deck shredded his Lannister-based strategies, and naturally I yelled Eliiiiiiaaaaaa as the game ended (well, not really).

Anyways, very time consumming sorting all the cards into factions (six houses and neutral cards), and then each faction into the various card types, and then finally alphabetizing them all. Bought one 3-ring binder for each faction and lots of double-sided 9-pocket card pages and over the last week been slowly sleeving all the cards.

Total investment so far? About $500 (including binders and card pages). But I now have all the cards and I definitely spent far less than I would've for getting into a CCG (though that's small consolation).

replaying Deus Ex get again, haven't played it for like 4-5 years. still a great game, one of the best/if not the best of all time, using Dx10 renderer, texture pack and "shifter".
