I was watching a buddy of mine play Dead Space 2 on his PS3 I believe it was...and let me tell you the both of us were scared stiff and MANY parts in the game...god that game is unbelievably creepy. I am man enough to admit I do not have the necessary balls to play that game and not scream like a little girl while playing it lol.

It's ok Suryad,
if you play on the p.c theres is no need to be afraid of low resolution, or be frightened by poor frame rates, you can feel safe knowing you dont have to put up with low quality art assets and you wont have to scream like a little girl because you have limited AA methods...

This is gold.

I haven't played the first two games, no. I doubt they would change my mind. Compared with the games I have played though, it is fantastic.

What the game delivers on is a huge, atmospheric world with incentive to explore and play how you want. I consider it's map to be the pinnacle of open world design, of all the games I've played. The rpg mechanics are rewarding and satisfying.

You gotta be joking. It's "fantastic" only if someone hasn't played the first two games or is simply easy to please.
I think you mean it's only a crappy game for fanboys who expect a sequel by a different development house to be a carbon copy of the earlier games.

Fallout 3 stands pretty well on its own merits. It's far from perfect, and has some annoying characteristics, but overall it is a very good game.

If by fanboys you mean people who expect a quality sequel, and not a raping of beloved series, then yeah, call them like that. Similarly, I can call people who love FO3 easy to please Bethesda's fanboys/kowtowers. Going back to FO3 after playing the first/second would point out how much of a husk it is in comparison, even from a visual design standpoint.

You and I have obviously very different standards, so let's agree to disagree.

Seems like a similar situation to when Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter came out - if they just gave it a different name no-one would've given a shit.

Yeah I thought so too, but it was a pretty different game to the original ghost recons. I took it on it's own merits and enjoyed it, especially the campaign in coop; but I would've liked a proper GR sequel all the same. Same thing happened with Rainbow 6, though I thought that gameplay reboot took a definite turn for the worse.

I don't think Ubisoft is ever going back to the franchises' roots. They are going after the lowest common denominator now with SC, R6 and GR.

I think Fallout 3 is a good game. It has some really nice touches as well as Bethesda's now standard amateurish animation and sandbox quests. It's not a good Fallout game, but it's a good game. The anachronisms in Fallout 3 are well documented, the dialogue (while much better than Oblivion) is mediocre, SPECIAL is butchered, they made the BoS something like Team America's world police, etc. etc. BUT as a post-apocalyptic game it's quite enjoyable. When I play I simply imagine it takes place 2 years after the war, which erases many of the inconsistencies for me. Add a few mods, count to 10 whenever the game crashes, and set your mind-set to exploration mode and the game is mighty good.

I do hope they further improve VO/Dialogue as well as animations/physics in Skyrim though.

Anyway, now that I'm back on Steam I'm playing though Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom which I got for 39 cents last December. The game is remarkable. I'm near the end and whilst the puzzles are not difficult the presentation (visual and auditory) is breathtaking and the clone mechanics satisfying.

Also, restarted GTA4 which I abandoned because I didn't have the rig to play it on. Now I do and it reaches 61fps at max settings @ 1080p. Sadly, the aliasing is disappointing and the game proper drags on too much with the girlfriend/friend side-missions.

That Winterbottom game can be super frustrating. Love the off the wall graphics, but the humor doesn't get me even smirking. I think I played it too soon after Braid to really enjoy it on it's own merits. I think I've done maybe 10-15 screens, god knows how far that is through the game... been a while.

My opinion is Fallout 3 was terrible. I can understand people liking and spending time in that world, and I don't hate them for it, I understand it cos if you go blind to a lot of factors then you can see that the experience could be enjoyable if you imagine most of things rather than looking at the game, but for me it just felt like cardboard cutouts desperately(too desperately! ) trying to convince me(and trying to be supercool when they were just dumb !) that its an awesome world to explore, when it just wasn't ! It was full of dumb wooden cardboard cutouts ! Maybe its just technically too difficult to do it....or just too much work......or maybe I just wasn't their target audience.

It wasn't difficult, it's just that they dumped everything they learned and just quickly copy-pasta'd some stuff onto the Oblivion engine.
