Vizio vs Samsung

So finally I've fixed to these two, what do you think of them, which one should be better? It seems that the plasma is better than the LCD, but the 1080p is better for gaming than the 720p. Am I right?
Samsung LN-T4065F 40-inch 1080p LCD TV $1250
1080P (Full HD) Resolution, 15,000:1 Contrast Ratio, 8ms response time, HDMI, Component Inputs.
Vizio 50-inch Plasma HDTV $1250
720p (1366 x 768) resolution, 10,000:1 contrast ratio ,2 HDMI inputs, 16:9 aspect ratio.

Or are there any better choices, I can afford around $1200.

How is the lighting in the room? Plasmas are better in darkness. LCDs are better in a brighter environment.

I'm not sure about the health effects, sorry. :p But perhaps you're referring to the higher contrast ratio? Plasmas can do a much deeper black level than LCD.

Plasma TVs can have a glare with brighter environments though due to the glass (some manufacturers use a sort of anti-reflection to combat that).

Head on over to avsforum and read up on each. Some Samsungs have some banding issues (some don't) and that 15000:1 contrast is going to be dynamic contrast (meaning not perfect). Vizios have tended to be lower quality and a 50" plasma for that price would indicate that. Definitely read avsforum and maybe Consumer Reports from 1 month ago.

That specific LCD also have issues in well lit rooms because of its reflecting surface. If you are sensitive to reflection look into the the models with anti-glare (matte) surface. (eg. LNT4061F)

I can vouch for the 50" version of the plasma Kyleb linked to...very nice.
