Well, there were hundreds in line for the PS3 at the Playstation Store in SF. I camped out in line starting at 4 AM this morning. Around 7 AM, they started advancing the line along the sidewalk, making sure to keep the driveways clear. By this time, the line had wrapped around the block and was several hundred people strong. I stopped at one driveway and the Sony/Playstation Store people came and announced they were merging a second line that had formed in front of everyone behind the driveway. So, essentially around 100-150 people cut into the middle of the line and then they said that was it in terms of units.

Maybe I'll pick up a 360, a Samsung Blu-Ray player, or just some upgrades to my PC instead. I'll have to think on it.

Why not just wait? There will be new shipments coming in all the time ...

You'll be camping a long time, Pilgrim

I work at a Walmart in the Electronics Dept. The weekly ad said minumun of 10 ps3's per store, but now we're expecting 2. We'll give rainchecks for the next 8 people and reserve the systems for them as they come in.

The official info, sent from corporate hq, is that we should be able to fill all 10 orders within 3 weeks.

The x360 launch is going to look like a model of efficiency compared to the ps3 fiasco.

As for the Wii, we already have 17 of them locked away in our security room.

Fair enough. I'm personally putting all my waiting money towards improving my setup - I still need a HDtv for instance, and if possible, I'd like to upgrade my Dolby Surround to something more ... digital. So come March, I'm hoping that I can afford the stuff I like

I may have to settle for 720p initially though, as right now the 1080p screens aren't even out yet here - but then I'll get a 1080p as soon as they get sub-1000 euro as having two HD screens doesn't hurt anyway ;).

The 360 doesn't even come close to offering me what I want out of the system before the summer of 2007 from the looks of it, and even then I won't be sure. Also, I'm going to wait until it gets a decent hardware revision, if I get it, which if I do, will likely be as a second system, and only if the PS3 isn't eating all my time.

Or the Wii should give a near Time Crisis like gameplay (equal or better to PS2 Time Crisis and more varied), then who knows I might go for that as a second console. For now though, I'm still hoping the PS3 is good enough to be my only console. ;)

Yes, I'm a big fan of the system. I'm looking forward to the US launch!

Why would anybody stand in a line that is 'hundreds' of people long?

Are there actually people out there that believe that there's a possibility they can be the 200th person in line and still be able to walk out of the store with a system? Are these people just bad at math?

Because it's the only store in the country that will have hundreds.
The have a launch party for 400 people and they will have PS3's for at least that many.

They will have hundreds of systems at the launch. I would have gotten one had I not been so considerate and backed up from a driveway on Minna street (the street in that photo above).

Springfield (KMTR) - Robbers targeted three men who had been waiting in line overnight for the release of a new game system at a Springfield electronics store. Now police are looking for two suspects.

It happened at Springfield’s Gateway Mall area in near the Circuit City store at about 3:00 a.m. Thursday.

The victims were camping outside in line with several other people, waiting to get their hands on Sony’s new PlayStation 3, set to be released Friday morning.

Police say the victims had left the line and were walking by a nearby Target store when two men wearing some sort of masks confronted them and they follow their instructions.

The victims said one of the suspects had a small semi-automatic pistol.

David Dardano, one of the victims, said, “One cocked a gun and said, ‘Don't move! Don't reach for anything.’ And after that he led us to this back entrance to Target and they separated us, me and Taylor, here. One guy had a blunt object, took our stuff. Alex, over there, got taken at gunpoint and they took his wallet and then ran off.â€￾

Police were able to follow the path of the robbers with the help of Gateway Mall’s surveillance video cameras. Officers recovered some of the stolen items, including a wallet.

Sad but its bound to happen. I hope they get caught.

What do they expect... I wouldn't dream to walk around at night in some parts of the US, let alone camping outside, unless there are a hundred people very close to me and we're all awake, wearing bullet proof vests!

Well kinda, I was in new york last year and I have to admit I didn't feel that comfortable in late hours. :)

Some freak grabbed my arm and tried to sell me a wallet, needless to say I said no thanks and had a steady pace walking away (aka, I almost ran!) lmao, thought he was reaching for a gun when he put his hand on his jacket. :(

I know I shouldn't ask but, what is you want out of the system that the pS3 offers at this point? You could say the same about the PS3 in that you should wait for a decent hardware revision and for some of the good games to appear in 2007 (like heavenly sword). Currently I see nothing that would justify the price yet.

Blu-Ray player intergrated into a very powerfull console with online support, built in browser/media hub with a honestly mind blowing potential as a real media power house with the linux support that is coming.

or you could use a computer and suck it up for a few months by living without the player ;).

Or... Get a 360 HDDVD player, use it with my PC.. and still wait for PS3 (i have to anyway), forget X360 cause PS2 and my mobile phone are satisfying my gaming needs, and live happily everafter! :devilish:

Well i was asking arwin the question. Btw did you need to respond with such a marketing sounded answer? When you answer a simple question (not targetted at you) with prases like:

1. powerful console
2. mind blowing potential
3. media power house

...all within one sentence? It makes me think you're either a viral marketer or someone that is brainwashed. I don't take responses like that seriously. Also the points you made have nothing to do with games. Which is what I think Arwin was talking about since he referred to the summer of 2007 for the Xbox 360.
