Unreal Tournament III Discussion *renamed*

It is probably the cache for the game. I assume it grows when you play previously unplayed maps.
 
So how are the mods? Are they user friendly enough to install and use for a non-PC gamer?

Most importantly, how are the Q3A DM maps going?
 
I'm thinking of picking the the PS3 version up this weekend. But I want to know how many are playing online now. Does it look like it's going to have an active community for a while?

Is it matchmaking only or is there a server browser like the PC version where you can actually see ping times etc before joining?
 
i think so. plus i think its worth it considering the mod community. isn't it possible for someone to pretty much make a different game and share it with all PS3 owners? regardless, there really isn't anything like UT3 yet on PS3, and the closest thing coming is probably Frontlines. but i think people will be playing this for a while.

i didn't do the optional install (load times are fine, and i don't really notice much texture pop) but i checked the "game files" folder in the xmb (where it shows installation files for games) and UT3 was ~900MB after a few hours, then it went up to 1200MB. is it normal for the installation to increase over time when you don't do the optional full install?
i ended up doing the "full install" and i checked the file size under "game files" and it was only 2265mb. i thought the full install was supposed to be 3.5gb?

Things I picked up as interesting:
- PAL version is more recent than US version, which will be patched in the near future
- they are working on integrating a MOD browser in the PS3 version for a future update
- the UE3 tech demo was running on 360, same engine updates were immediately available for the PS3 version as well, all tech is always immediately available to all licencees, though the 'blessed build' version (which is recommended to use for shipping games) is typically a month later than the tech's first appearance
- PS3 version seems to be selling better than the PC version

- Fix for too many custom characters causing texture corruption
- Keyboard jump now does Smart Jump
- Fix for tilt controlling player sometimes
- Removed Warfare Score Limit of 0 in UI
- Disabled 3d sound positioning on mission briefing sounds
- Fixed exploits with ViewNextPlayer in rare cases
- Fixed some HUD positioning bugs
- Fixed a Darkwalker AI bug
- Fixed some teleporter timing bugs
- Fixed low-bandwidth, large player count connectivity

EURO AND US

- Mods now on root of memory device, can download easier from PS3 web browser
- Fixed VOIP quality issues
- Fixed some headset connection issues
- Added support for full character mods (heads/premade whole characters)
- No longer need to reboot after importing a character mod to see it in menus
- DLC no longer acts like a user mod (being listed in MyContent and causing disable mod crash dialog)
- Fix for bootup and import slowdown with many mods installed
- Add a VOIP icon when VOIP is active (button held down)
- Fixes for corrupted the auto-mod-download cache
- Fix for flickering auto-download text
- Fix for getting stuck in multiplayer menu if you get in before gamespy connects
- Fixed a mod problem with switching between mod and shipping maps with clients teleporting randomly
- Fixed a mod problem with multiple gametype mods installed, only first one imported would work
- Fixed Leviathan deploy icon
- Bots now respect players feigning death (depending on bot skill level)
- Bots now respect sandstorm "blindness"
- Fix for bots picking linkgun mode

At least one of these models are said to be ripped from the original game. Is it true that one can "reuse" the characters from UE3 games easily ?

I'm waiting for a decent party system (home), mod browser and totally unique gameplay modes.
 
Yes, I think they absolutely must include a mod browser either in-game or @Home :)
