Unreal Tournament III Discussion *renamed*

Yep, thats weird alright.....

A map built by lego bits! Now that looks really interesting but POM would really make it look so much more.

I like the destructible Lego map (which is a demo apparently), since I'm still waiting for a visually simple, otherwise focused downloadable FPS.

Yes, the Lego one looks rad. I also saw a giant toilet level. The toilet bowl is a few stories tall (Not sure if it's for PC only).

[Someone should do a Cortana model. Would be humorous to see Cortana fight Master Chief in some Mario or Zelda land]

It would be even more interesting if the model were not only translucent, but also only susceptible to energy weapons . :p

"Unreal Tournament 3 Media Blowout
A trailer and screens the likes of which only Epic could deliver.

April 17, 2008 - It may have taken a little while longer than the rest of the pack, but Epic Games' other franchise is on its way to Xbox 360 soon. A release date hasn't yet been announced, but you can be sure that the extra time is going to good use. The Xbox 360 release will contain five new exclusive maps those other platforms didn't get, two new characters and will include two player splitscreen action. All that and it also sports all of the downloadable content that Epic has created for the PS3 and PC.

Features are nice, but all the bonus content in the world isn't worth squat if the game isn't loads of fun. Jeff Morris, Senior Producer at Epic Games, offered up his thoughts on how Unreal Tournament 3 will lure people away from the twin headed beast of Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4:"

Still expecting it to bomb like PS3 and PC versions though.

Master Chief and Ryu Hayabusa? :p

Yay for splitscreen. I haven't gotten the game yet, but I'm still leaning towards the PC version at the end of the day (got a decent computer hooked up to the TV). I'm really just waiting for the price to fall because I'm not a hardcore MP player.

No mod on XB360 version, at least no community mods. MS have been firm on that, even calling it dangerous on PS3.

UT III will also support split screen gameplay, cool for the friends!

At the very least, what they ought to do is waive certification (and hence fees) for Epic/Midway approved bonus packs. I mean, it's in their interests not to stamp on other IPs anyway. :???:

UT3 better looking on 360 than PS3, Epic boss hints

The 360 version of UT3 features two-player split-screen support across all modes except online ranked, to prevent cheating. It also contains three brand new maps, two re-imagined maps and two new characters, as well as all the DLC from the PS3 and PC versions.

When asked what version of UT3 has the better graphics, Rein replied: "You'll have to judge that for yourself. I think it goes without saying that the more time you spend on a product the more optimisation you get, and you can draw your own conclusions from that. But this is a great version of the game. And now we have split screen as well. A lot of optimisation was necessary for this version to get decent performance with split screen. That was no easy task."

Please.

In a snippet from an OXM interview, Mark Rein also said there may be something "special" regarding Gears 2 included on the disc. A beta key would work favourably for sales as it did with Crackdown. ;)

This was from the Midway Gamer's Day.

Unreal Tournament 3 (Xbox 360) - running amazingly well and in full detail, both fullscreen and splitscreen machines were setup. The three new exclusive maps were available to play: DM-KoosBarge, VCTF-Rails, and WAR-ColdHarbour. The other two 'new' maps are Necrified versions of VCTF-Suspense and WAR-Downtown, allowing you to play Axon versus Necris on those levels.

More impressions:

1. WAR-Cold Harbour - this is the one that we've got the concept art for (check that feature). You can catch glimpses of it in the trailer - it's pretty easy to spot. There's not a lot to this one as it's basically a V shaped node/core layout with two un-linked Air nodes flanking the point of the V. All in all, not too bad, but it's a bit smaller than I had imagined. It works though.

2. DM-KoosBarge - if you look at the trailer, you can catch it real quickly - it's the barge (duh!). It's more or less inspired by UT's DM-KoosGalleon. If you remember that one, then you've imagined the remake. It's still small, still pretty tight, and utterly simple. Imagine an open topped barge with fighting taking place in the small hold and on the surface of the barge. One nice touch is that the barge rocks all around with the waves.

3. VCTF-Rails - if you like RocketTurrets then you'll LOVE this map. If not then you might not. Each team has one and a rail that runs the length of the map - yes all the way to the enemy base. It is a destroyed city type setting (not unlike any of the others in UT3) and it's medium sized though very simple. The open courtyard of each has a base structure and a few short doorways/pathways in the nearby buildings. The map is cut in half by a canal. There are really only two road routes that cross the center, so there's definitely a congestion point.
