What a lame take. Ok yea, I'll just develop my own tech demos and games. Thanks Epic! I don't need developers anymore.Well the tools are at you disposal and UE5 runs better on PC than consoles so feel free to develop an awesome looking demo !

Sad is telling people to develop their own games and tech demos. How can I ever criticize Epic? They've given me the tools to fix it myself... right?.....Give people free stuff, they'll still complain.
Sad.

This is interesting. Why is the RX 580 "running" this at all?
It not only lacks HW-RT, but also DXR. This should not be running at all on this kind of hardware.
Quality wise, it pretty much looks identical to it running on a HW-RT capable card, even off-screen reflections are seemingly there.
The Software-Lumen fallback does not support off-screen reflections or this kind of GI-level. What is going on here? Very curious indeed.
Lumen doesn't require RT so why wouldn't it run? Also I'm not seeing anything there that indicates RT reflections, just SSR and faked maps.It not only lacks HW-RT, but also DXR. This should not be running at all on this kind of hardware.

Right ! See, you had the answer all along !
are we sure these are RT relfections ? Looks more like a mix of cubemaps + SSR ?
Nvidia primarily designed GPUs for Personal Computers to play video games.. eventually they branched out into sciences
My rant is about Epic's priorities.. not so much this specific demo. I see a trend forming with them.. and I'm just stating my opinion on what I observe. Its not that much different for AMD/console hardware, its zen2 and rnda2 tech. Wouldnt say that RDNA2 is designed so much better, whats in the consoles is basically amd gpu derative hardware with some customizations. This isnt a hardware problem/fault at all. The NV gpus are as much designed for gaming as AMD's are. The performance figures show atleast.
Maybe if final UE5 games run bad or not at all yea then i get it. We got UE5 'demo's' before and they ran better right?
I somewhere understand your rant, and its point on in some spots but its also abit early to judge on just this Matrix tech demo which the pc didnt even get, just a sample developers can fiddle with. If you wan tech demos NV and AMD have them, to show what the hardware could possibly do.
I wonder if you were around during the 6th generation, the PS2 had an amazing tech demo scene, arguably more so than what the pc platfrom had at the time.
Anyway also be aware that what Andrew wrote yesterday. We dont want to offend anyone (and i know thats not your intent, but again, negativity around Epic is abit early just because of a bad running sample).

AMD and Nvidia. I have the same criticisms towards them as well with regards to tech demos. We don't get fancy downloadable tech demos from AMD and Nvidia anymore like we used to.
But hey, I can't criticize them right... they've given me GPUs so I can build my own tech demos for them
None of what you said has anything to do with my issues with Epic on the PC side. I don't care how many tech demos consoles get vs PC. I care about how many tech demos PC gets now... vs what it used to get.Well, we did get UE5 tech demo before together with the Xbox series. Ran quite well from what i remember. To be honest we can observe the same things for consoles, how many tech demos are there vs the pc?
Yeah thats what it looks like today. Atleast you (or the community) can build them. On consoles thats not really possible i assume.
But hey, I can't criticize them right... they've given me GPUs so I can build my own tech demos for them
I'm not wrong. I understand it full well that what released on PC isn't a tech demo. I already stated that the issue is that they didn't release the tech demo portion on PC.. and this is a growing trend on the PC side with companies who used to release tech demos demonstrating their engines/hardware no longer do so on PC...you can critize, but it's just that you"re wrong in this specific case, as it's not a demo, like the one released for the consoles, it's just the release of the assets from the demo to toy with in the UE5 editor.
But PC got another demo before the matrix demo that the consoles did not get. And the PC scene has been making demos in UE5 for months
What we need now are full fledged games !
What Remij is asking for is a full optimized tech demo for the PC platform. Not just something people package into a stutter mess. A demo that just runs as well on PC as it does on console, made by Epic or another top tier development studio. And maybe one that can scale much beyond what the consoles can do at that, with scalability settings for different kinds of hardware (though I would leave any GPU that is not capable of HW-RT and DX12U behind as those massively hold back other more modern GPUs).
