Without seeing the final product it's hard to judge surely, and I'm not sure dropping the target is the same as struggling, as stated, maybe they were too ambitious? Either way it is their first game so they are building an engine from the ground up I expect (like U1 to U2 etc) any future games to set the bar even higher.

I still think ND will deliver in spades. I just think they could've kept their internal rendering targets off the public press. Especially so early into a project (more than a year away from the potential release date back in E3 2014, almost two years away from the actual release date).

Saw the thing live, really good animations and really good in-game models. From gaf:

I wanna see what they are doing with SP though, we'll be playing the beta in just a few days anyway.

Yeah the taunts look so funny, i like how they don't aim for realism with MP like they did with TLOU, this should be a lot more fun.

The instant model swaps reveal some intriguing specular fade-in. Is that result of some sort of temporal integration perhaps?

I think that was the same in the Sam pursuit demo they showcased earlier this year

Yeah, that's true, but it was not as obvious then, without models popping into view completely from one frame to the other. I was on the fence about it, but it seems like they really are amortazing part of their specular lighting between multiple frames... Curious...

Because you brought it up, made some gif comparisons from the twitch footage

Whatever it is it definitely takes its time to "settle". Only seems to affect areas where things are changing so changing between models should make it more obvious. The most obvious change on Drake is from this mask:

Which is this (slowed down x0.4)

It all seems identical to what we saw back at the E3 demo

You're right, dropping the target is not the same as struggling. Struggling means they're still trying, dropping the target means they flat out gave up.

Looks something like sampling of indirect light sources distributed to several frames and let temporal AA clean the result.
Most likely they use TAA to fix lot of other sampling problems as well.

still haven't watched it but those Drake images look too good to be true. Actual MP must have lesser quality stuff than these char selection screens, isn't it?

Surely there must be some lods but ND themselves said that's the in-game models for MP they are using.

You see your character from the back difficult to compare and it is a twitch video, the quality is not very good. I bought the UDC Collection, I will play the beta today.

I am playing UDC Collection now. I finish UC1 and UC2 and I am playing UC 3 and the quality is much better than the three rematered games or TLOU remastered with non realtime cutscene with improve lightning...
