The Top 100 games as determined by next-gen.biz

Interesting list. Though why not to include PC sales in the same list?

Interesting question, probably it'd make the list appear a bit weird, some popular titles not showing up as they get pushed out by PC ones.

The PC list should be extremely interesting. I'm very curios to see some of that sales data. I know WoW and the Sims will be tops, but should be interesting. Hmm, I wonder how much copies the Sims has sold.

Acutally, it would be the other way round. Console titles usually sell far more than their PC counter parts. But since the plan on releasing a separate PC US sales list, you can make your own combined ranking.

best selling pc games (worlwide)
# The Sims (16.08 million)
# Myst (11 million)
# StarCraft (9 million)
# Half-Life (8 million)
# World of Warcraft (6.56 million)
# The Sims 2 (5.21 million)
# Medal of Honor: Allied Assault (4 million)

best selling ps2 games (worlwide)
# Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec (14.36 million)
# Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (13.63 million)
# Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (13.44 million)
# Grand Theft Auto III (11.42 million)
# Final Fantasy X (7.93 million)
# Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (7.01 million)
# Gran Turismo 4 (6.58 million)

as u can see pc games dont even stack up against a single console (admitly the largest console ever)
note - a lot of the pc games are old myst, starcraft, halflife ( more evidence that the moneys not in pc games )

I'd like to have seen a breakdown of the multiplatform sales.

Clearly, the Dreamcast wasn't part of the last generation because it didn't come after the PS2.

Or maybe because none of the games sold as much.

Isn't the list based only on sales? I see an odd trend where the closer to the top you go in the list the higher the unit sales go.;)

Christ almighty. This link just showcased the lackluster quality of console games. Some of those picks were EMBARRASSING to the gaming community. And to be frank, Vice City was a great game, but not the best console game of all time.

A number of DC games sold well enough to make it onto that list. Sonic Adventure would have been well into the top 100.

[edit] It's a top 100 list![/edit]

It is only a sales list. Killzone isn't there didn't it sell well despite poor reviews? What about BLACK?

No. You didnt understand what I was saying. I know there would still be far more console games, but the end result would still be less console games showing up. Therefore some games you'd expect from the consoles wouldnt be on the list.

And wow, people should really read the first page of such things. The amount of "WTF These games suck" questions amazes me.

They may have sold well only due to the fact that they appeared, for whatever reason defies me, actually appealing to people. Console games have never retained any value longer than a month. Albeit they do have a bright future. I WILL be picking up a PS3 for MGS4 and Army of Two.

I'm a bit of a holdover from the old-school console gaming crowd. Most of the games on there aren't even as fundamentally good as some of the old SNES and Genesis games. With the exception of the Madden series, the Halo's, and some of the stealth combat games (MGS, Splinter cell series), and a few of the next-gen RPG's, a lot of what I see here is far from revolutionary...but hey, the list focuses on unit sales, makes for a good marketing study and provides some commentary on the quality of console games that are developed and sold if nothing else. It's a shame that a multiplatform breakdown wasn't done.
