Major Nelson is the Microsoft Director of Xbox Live, Among other things.

Everything you probably want to know is in there, if someone has already seen this , then i apologize, and yes i also checked the first page, and didnt see any other threads about this yet.

Plain and simple xbox360 owns ps3. Goes out and buys xbox360

I'm kidding i'm gonna buy the revolution

Yes, i Will also Buy a Revolution, I always buy the NIntendo Consoles.

But i will also Camp out to get the Xbox 360.

I have been waiting to find a Good Tech Artical on the new xbox and playstation, Im glad i finally found one!

obviously this is hardly an impartial source, but can we get a breakdown of what the more technically inclined members here make of it?

ie does it hold water... it's clearly going to be somewhat in favour of the xenon, but that isn't to say there won't be useful info there

It's an obviously misleading article, IMO. Many of the comparisons are twisted (unsurprising given the source).

Is this likely to be true?

With the number of transistors being slightly larger on the Xbox 360 GPU (330M) it’s not surprising that the total programmable GFLOPs number is very close.

Even if that was including the "3Dram" it'd make the XGPU a bit of a monster.

JUst have your most Technically Knowledgable people here read the artical, I want to know what they make of it.

I.E. Plausable or bullcrap....

Does that mean that you dont believe that?

I believe if 10 eDRAM<->logic && 10 eDRAM <-> Xenos bw is comparable to system memory, we should include in the count the 7x256kb local memory bandwidth of each SPE, and we better don't do it...

It's not untrue, but it's an obviously skewed comparison.

That 48GB/s is to 100% of PS3's memory.

256GB/s of X360's bandwidth figure is to just 2% of its memory. And it's an "effective" figure at that, not physical bandwidth which is what he's comparing to.

I don't know if he's taking himself seriously here, or what, but it's rather amusing.

Well let's see.

Even if 256GB/s shadercore->memcore figure is correct (Dave, did you have a chance to double-check that?), you don't just add up the two and pass them off a "total system bandwidth"

For example, with simple color rendering and Z testing at 550 MHz the frame buffer alone requires 52.8 GB/s at 8 pixels per clock.

What? Either I am miseterpiteing what he is saying, or this is way off.

I don't know why everyone was so quick to believe 1 IGN report of the xenos being 1/2 the size of the PS3 GPU. Since it is 2 smaller chips I am sure yields will be great and make the chips cost effective enough to be the same size or bigger than the PS3 GPU.
