Hopefully they'll have the great crowd models they had as far back as GTHD.

Naturally a lot more are needed for such a track as Indy................The crowds on GTHD and Prologue on the Eiger track are fantastic, but of course there is no where near the amount need, and tended to be in small pockets. Im not expecting any different to whats in the Indy track, for the rest of the game for that stle of track. Its probably going to differ from track to track.

Its been a while so i thought i`d bring everyones attention back to the Academy demo, and more importantly your latest and greatest times (yes, you aswell Patsu!).

Just clocked a 1:37.714 Tuned with the DS3 pad.................Mind, i`ve just noticed the top pad driver in the world is at an insane 1:35.659!!..................crazy. Can`t help but think he/she got lucky in someway as far as cutting corners or something..................

In most cases, the only time you can go near a tree is if you're way off the track. Honestly, who plays a racing sim to look at trees? Maybe it's because I'm a big racing sim fan, but I don't notice such details when I'm playing. Even if I spin out off the track, is my attention drawn to the trees? No, I'm concentrating on getting my ass back on the track.

Personally, I think PD did an excellent job at managing their resources. In motion, GT5 is the most beautiful looking racing sim to date IMHO. When not in motion, their car models are second to none. If you want to stop and stare at scenery, look elsewhere... this isn't the game for you.

Please note that this is not a personal attack at you, Scott. I'm just kind of fed up with people complaining about the trees all the time. Sure, they're not the greatest trees... there's a legitimate beef in that regard. But unless this sticks out to people while racing, it seems rather nit picky for this type of game. I completely agree with Yamauchi when he said, "I'm hoping our players won't be caught up with minor details. If they pick at every little thing, nobody will be satisfied.".

To me, it's all about the gameplay. If the game plays great, then it's a minor detail. I'm just sayin they look pretty bad, and it was very obvious to me from the get go. I didn't have to drive up close to the trees to notice it. They just looked bad, so I drove closer to investigate how they were structured.

Regardless whether it is an issue in the game, I'm surprised anyone couldn't notice it. They really do look like trees from an old racer. And the people in the stands look pretty bad too.

I do like to look at and around the track as I'm driving. I spend little time looking at the car I'm driving. If there were other cars on the track, which there weren't in the time trail demo, I'd probably spend less time looking at the surroundings.

The trees work great though, not only are the colors almost perfect, they also dont need so much performance and because of that, PD could recreate whole forests beside the Nordschleife for example.

Some new stuff from Tokyo:

Here’s some of the first news to come out of the Tokyo Auto Salon 2010: Polyphony Digital has partnered with auto technology company Denso to develop a “GPS-track day unit”, one of which will be included in the new Toyota FT-86G. It works by monitoring your position as you put in hot laps around a real-world track (which is also in GT5, of course). Pull the memory card out of your car and plug it into your PS3, and the data collected will be used to reconstruct your lap within the game. From there, you’ll be able to watch your replay or compete against yourself by loading the replay as a “ghost” car.
According to MotorTrend, Polyphony and Denso’s GPS unit was tested in a race-spec Lexus IS-F at the Nurburgring last October (probably during Yamauchi’s VLN race). MotorTrend editor Peter Lyon was also able to confirm that a “3D version” of GT5 will be available “as soon as 3D TVs become available on the market,” (Sony’s 3D TVs will be available this summer).

When I tried to look/stare at the trees while playing GT5 demo in a mall today, I crashed into the wall. Screw that. Keep the 2D trees and keeping improving the overall visual and gameplay. I think the trees don't stick out to me because they look consistent, and they move quickly.

I agree the audience is more noticeable than the trees. I remember MotorStorm 1 had pretty fake spectators as well. As long as they look like GT5P or MLB 2009 The Show spectators, I'm fine.

I think the spectators look good.
There are over 100.000 animated 2D spectators in Indianapolis which look better than in some sport games. The 3D spectators from London or Eiger also look good, but you cant expect these models on the big tribunes, thats just impossible on the PS3.

1:50.891.........3:28:605 combined..........581st in the overall UK.......Wonder how many of those are with a joypad? Something they can add for the full release.........

Dude, you can click on any time and see the details, which include with what they've been driven!

http://www.gtdb.net/ Global leaderboards, hover with the mouse above on top of the page and click on the pad icon.

My times so far:
Stock: 1'49.777 - DualShock 3 - Cockpit - Racing line off - MT - TCS locked to 7 due to pad
Tuned: 1'37.311 - DualShock 3 - Cockpit - Racing line off - MT - TCS 0
Total: 3'27.088

I know that, but instead of clicking on each user it would be nice to see a little icon of the control method used, and maybe one step further and be able to filter out the control methods, so you just end up with a list purely of wheel or pad times.

Or they could include filter search leaderboard where you can specify settings and they can recalculate the entire leaderboard every time. I hate to see that my position is affected in Forza 3 case where I did no replay whatsoever...

Something same used to happen with me in Forza 3 too.
Most of the guys who were above me in the leaderboards had some kind of assist turned on , infact many of them had every assist turned on, while I played the whole game without any assists.

TCS is always locked to 7 for the Tuned car, for wheel users too.

It used to be so that wheel drivers never had an advantage over pad drivers in any combination except maybe really, really slow cars. In all other circumstances there are small advantages for either that have so far always cancelled each other out (i.e. in all the competitions I've been to and online time trial competitions that I've been part of or witnessed). An advantage for the pad for instance is that you can turn your wheel from left to right much faster than is humanly possible with a physical wheel that you have to turn up to 180 degrees (or in rare cases more).

it may well be that this is starting to become different for GT as time goes on and it is becoming more realstic, but I think it's too early to judge just yet.
