The Big Forza 2 Thread *

Wow reading that, there's no question that this game is the auto sims of simulations (for consoles anyway)

such attention to detail and all the in game calculations to do so... mind boggling

In the pitpass, Che said that they still needed to do some graphical fixes before the final build, so there are chances that it could gain a small increase in various aspects.

And 1up yours said something to the effect on this weeks podcast that they've been polaying around with a late preview build the last week and while they nerded out on the sim aspects, there was debate on whether it even looked as good as PGR3 :(

Obviously, 1 core seems to be overkill for Forza 2's physics, which is impressive because it updates itself 360 times in a second.

More obviously, rendering is a much more ciritcal process that does not need to be blocked by other threads to much. I guess decompression is strong on that audio core as well... (more than audio).

Honestly, I feel like they are overdoing it !
PGR3 is not real 720p, when i was playing in sd, i felt like omg this game is so awesome and so on. I was slightly disappointed when i ran it in hd for the first time.
Still, PGR3 looks extremly good, but FM2 real 720p might probably give it quite a nice hedge over PGR3. And then we have 60 fps (without motion blur, though).

Same here, PGR3 on an SD tv is simply amazing however

The guys at 1up at least didn't think it was quite up to PGR3 in terms of graphics.

well for one they had a not final build, two PGR3 is gorgeous, three FM2 runs at 720p 60fps and does many many more physics calculations than PGR (or any console racing game) even ever thought about; using precious processing cycles and four, quantifying graphics quality while playing a game is a subjective measurement.

but judging by the city screens PGR has more realistic buildings but the cars and other scenes n FM2 as well as the aforementioned incredible physics (360fps), car handling, exemplary AI of the other cars, car tweaking and damage modeling more than make up for any graphic slight IMO.

You know, it just occurred to me how myopic the discussion of this game has been. The graphics have been put under a microscope. The physics have been discussed at some length, though mostly as a rebuttal to another's negative comments about the graphics. The community aspects of the game, though, have been largely ignored. And IMO, this is the area where Turn10 have been the most innovative.

A couple examples off the top of my head made possible by the livery creation functions:

It is quite possible to become successful and "famous" in the game community without just going out and winning races thanks to the ability to create and sell cars modified with custom liveries.

The ability to create a livery and then stamp it on multiple cars makes it easy to create a racing team with your friends that share a common design. Even across multiple car models.

I partly blame Turn10's PR for not promoting this stuff well enough (though they have tried). But people really need to look beneath the surface more to properly appreciate what is truly unique and different about this game.

I feel that we will need proper video of this running to fully appreciate it or on our television to compare to PGR3. I still think that they will hit that mark. I think PGR3 is beautiful, but Forza 2 is doing so much more than PGR3 that you have to give it up for Turn 10 anyways.

Some nice looking cam shots from the latest trailer, no not very representative of the actual GFX but still nice:

Thanks for sharing these lovely photos of FM2, scooby_dooby. I've seen the actual video and I am pretty happy with the AI's behaviour, not to mention those cool realtime reflections on the red car.

Yeah, I think that's one of the more flattering ones I've seen. That's the weird thing about FM2's lighting... get it in an environment where a window or flat area of the car should be reflecting a bright sky etc., and it looks very realistic. In darker environments or with more subtle lighting it starts loosing the realism.

But, I'm still drooling over the impending release date!

When I see this shots I'm thinking that the problem with Forza was not the game quality but the video quality that we can see all over the internet…

Personally I think that its just these images. Every other movie and screenshot released are far from looking real. They cant be all non-representative of quality while these screenshots taken from a monitor are more representative. Gametrailers have new movies btw.

edit: btw the movie is the exact footage shown in these screenshots. Still looks great though and there is some very noticable improvment

I hate the marketing for this game. Way too many ups and downs. Not a great way to send a message to the consumer. I'm getting this first day, but to the causal fan, they are probably like with the real Forza 2 please stand up.

That I trail to tell it's that many of the screens or video on the internet don't have a very good translation of color and contrast, a lot was washed look and it's not only for Forza, it's for many game…

I think the methodology for making screens or video need to be improved…

Actually, in my experience, taking pictures of a plasma or LCD thats properly calibrated, is not only going to look better most times than the screens, its also going to look closer to what i see on my screen at home.

Is this video out on XBL market place btw? Il take some pictures to prove my theory.

Personally such methods of taking pictures looked more realistic than what I actually encountered from personal experience of the games.

The impression of better lighting/colors only makes up for the lack of motion and thrills of actually having it for real in front of you. But definetely in all occasions such captures looked more realistic than the actual game to me.

I agree that many recent screen captures are bad and not reprsentative, but there are also many occaions where captures make them look much more realistic than they are. Such as this one.

GT:HD was another example in some occasions. The game does look realistic when you actually watch the game for real, actually too realistic, but there were also images of it captured the same way as these ones that made it look even more realistic.

Well I tried to check out the same ultra realistic lighting presented in these specific images but they were absent. Although I must admit that it probably had the most realistic lighting effects in any racing game I ve ever seen on cars, they were not the same or as realistic
