    Go back to the PS3.
    Who can press BR disc?
As I know, there is no company with such equipment, only the "official" ones.

In the case of the PS1/2,there is a big business from it.
But not in the case of the PS3.

Using that same argument. Who can press UMD's? :p A far more niche distribution medium than BRD.

Even for PS1 snd PS2 you could not press a CD/DVD that would boot on a un-modded console. No one could make a pressed bootable game-disk.

Once the PS3 will get it's modchip - and it will, make no mistake about this - you will see pirated BR, as it will be more convenient for people with hacked consoles to buy these that to downlod 20 or 40 something Gb, especially if your internet connection is poor.

Looks like new CFW has been released with PSN support that makes it much simpler with a proxy, so do we know say hackers "win".

It's a cat and mouse game that will continue to be played as long as hacker developers foresee a challenge. A different developer has already stated that it's "fun" to hack the inner workings of the PS3. He/She doesn't seem to be looking to make any money out of it as he is releasing everything for it including the source code for free.

    That's a 3.55 firmware. Have they cracked 3.56 yet ?

I'm not that informed, but I assume the answer is no, which is why they have a modified 3.55 that fakes to be a 3.56 so that it can connect to PSN.

Of course it could be done, you couldn't do it with a normal CD/DVD writer but pirates made pressed bootable game-disks for example for disk swapping. In fact they even work on a normal PS3 with BC.

Hmm... In that case, the faked 3.56 PSN access should be addressable by Sony.

From what I read, they feel no need as there isn't any new features (or games) that are specific to 3.56 yet.

How's the progress on Asbestos ? Anything useful to end users on hacked PS3 so far ? ...besides going to PSN and playing ISOs.

The last game I played on PS3 was Castlevania LOS. Is there any game out now that require 3.56? Since they also can get on PSN with 3.55, what else would drive them to have a 3.56 solution.

The 2 most recent games that came after the most recent update was MvC3 and KZ3. Does anyone know if they require 3.56?
    I don't think that MvC3 does, but I'm not sure about KZ3.

KZ3 went gold a while back, won't be surprise that they have started press the disc before 3.56 even came out. But this can stop ppl from playing online since you need the lastest firmware to do so.

I wouldn't mind seeing XBMC ported to the PS3. If that happened, I'd be sorely tempted to buy a hackable PS3.

Although in this case it would be more for nostalgia (hacked Xbox with XBMC) as I already have an HTPC for media playback throughout the house.

I don't have a HTPC and XBMC would be a big incentive for me to jump on CFW. My modded Xbox is too old to play HD vids and is also pretty loud as well.

I have XBMC for my laptop. I really like being able to stream my favorite anime sites to my LCD via HDMI. It would be cool to eliminate the need for the laptop and utilizing the PS3 directly for that. I have no problems with losing PSN access as I rarely played online with my PS3.

My only concern would be not being able to play the newer games beyond whatever the CFW supported. Of the PS3 exclusives, the only game really on my radar is Uncharted 3, although I haven't really been following what is coming out this year.
