Supposedly real design of Xbox 360

Here's a big pic:

That just might be it. The guy on GAF who would scream fake if it was fake, has remained unusually vague in his comments ;)

Well, or it might be another joke played by guys over at Somethingawful.

Can't say it's too terrible, but can't say I like it either. Looks like something designed with Kai Power Tools ten years ago.

It's definitely a step up from XBox and even more definitely a step down from PSP and even new PSTwo, I can tell that much (if this is indeed real, which I still have some doubts)

I think it would look nicer if it was (a lot) thinner. This way it has some of that old Xbox bulkyness, even though it's sleeker and smaller.

Looks like a next generation vase to me.

Funny photoshop

Anyway.... wouldn't surprise me if it were real. I see nothing wrong with the design.. IMO it's a step up from the Xbox design.

FAKE! The lighting isn't consistent across the image.

1. For instance the sphere below the "ring of light" has the shadow upside down.

2. The ring of light is off center of the section it sets on.

3. The little divots just right of the ring of light also have comepletely screwed up shadows.

I think someone took a PC case image and photoshoped this up.

Qroach, it could be fake, and I have noticed all those problems you mentioned. Engadget reports it's real though, apparently confirmed by their developer sourcer.

If it's a 3D rendered/photoshoped it does not mean that it must be fake, though.

Well if it were 3D rendered it would have consistent lighting. Even still, if it's a photoshop image, that someone put together, then it still shouldn't be considered real, right?

I'm doubtful. The shape of it (despite the round power button) doesn't at all correspond to the 360 name, assuming that is what it'll be called. In fact the shape looks plain weird if you ask me, seems very top heavy and easily toppled. Of course, if there are no controller cords that'll take care of some of those concerns. Still, don't seem to be any (built-in) battery recharging docking station for joypads, etc. Fiddling with separate AA batteries will be a nightmare if this isn't included.

Also, I expected a much larger logo than that tiny one on the DVD tray. It IS a microsoft product after all. :D Still, maybe they've covered the sides of it with logos, who knows. ;)

Looks nice IMO. Nothing too exciting though, which doesn't have to be a bad thing mind you... fitting into the livingroom is one of the things that it should do well and this isn't off by any means. I still like the PS2 design better and I'm wondering if Sony can come up with something for PS3 that would look better.

BTW; I'm not too fond of the PStwo's design, despite the amazing size of it which does make it quite a nice little looking thing.

EDIT: One thing I'll never like though: the colour green is just not "cool" IMO. Blue > Green. :? IMO Microsoft should ditch the hippy green in their logo and on the power button.

They already did -> PSP
Small reminder ;)

Their new line of LCD monitors is sexy as hell too.

Re: authenticity (posted by Guy Ledouche on GAF, he's a member of SA forum as well)

The source pic is from a very reliable mod over at something awful. here is one of his posts from the thread at SA Games:

qirex came out of the closet to say:
Nope, this is from someone who contacted me and said this was a leaked graphic but they didn't want to post it because they wanted to reduce the risk to the person who gave it to them. I looked it over in Photoshop and decided to post it. It's obviously not a raw photo but absolutely nothing you see by any professional designer is. My guess is that it's a rendering or Illustrator drawing with the type parts cleaned up/recreated in Photoshop. This is actually really common, it's really hard to capture details like the memory card port writing and you can optimize how they're displayed for different sizing of the graphic.

The fact that the original was CMYK, had color correction data and a [well made] clipping path was enough for me. I had to convert it in order for it to display in a web browser. It also matches pretty much every report about it so far which is of course a little suspicious. Again, I'm not saying this is definitely it, look at the question mark in the title of the thread. But from the file I got and what I know it's the most reasonable so far.

The thing that stikes me as most odd about the pic is the way the power button is labled for the thing to be on end while everything else is configured in respect to the unit laying flat. In my opnion, this is a fake.

Well, I don't know - the XBox 360 controllers (at least the wired ones) are supposed to be usb, and there should be two usb ports on the front. Maybe that's what's behind that seeming 'trap-door,' but it's hard to tell.

Whatever the case, it's pretty widely circulated that the front of the 360 should have two usb ports, and so that puts this supposed design in question; at least for me.

ok 1st clue should be an easy one. It doesn't say microsoft on it!! There's no way microsoft is releasing a game console that doesn't have thier name on the front. That would be stupid.

have you guys considered this my be the "snap on" part of the console that is removable. or something like it

The other silver console pic on teamxbox shows a button down the bottom that looks like the console could be modular

MS logo could be on the top or the side, depending how you are looking at it. Or this simply is not 100% finished design but close to finished maybe.
