Weekly Development Update
In fact, that feedback is already paying dividends! This afternoon, we patched the PTU to address some crash bugs and issues with the flyable Avengers. Thanks to the feedback from our vanguard test group, we’re pleased to announce that we are upping the test group significantly in time for the weekend. 15,000 backers, selected based on their activity level in Arena Commander, will be receiving wave two invites shortly! Remember, this is still early testing: expect lots of issues… but all those crashes and disconnects will help make for a better game for everyone.

The team have been working around the clock and over the weekend to get you this build but we won’t let up the pace until 2.0 is available to everyone and want to thank you all for your patience and understanding in what it’s taken to get here. This release really is a landmark in Star Citizen and video games history as we’re now pioneering technology that’s never been undertaken to this scale before and it’s all thanks to the belief in the backers who helped fund the team to make the dream a reality

Now that P-72 is done, Garmukh is going to be working on the Carrac next!

Nice.
It's good that they finally get players into small piece of the universe and get input and bug reports from them.

Alien: Isolation in Star Citizen Alpha 2.0? Start the video at 6:25.

Good video

In 2:30 to 3:27 I was particularly reminded in Interstellar. The sound of the spacecraft at 11:43 in the distance is great. I like this peace and the sounds of the spaceships.

9 page Squadron 42 article in german magazine Gamestar, some new Infos: (I did not read it)

There are a few mild spoilers about the beginning of the Sq42 campaign in the following text so be warned. I didnt find out how to set a proper spoiler tag, maybe someone is able to explain it to me.
  • You will begin your game on a space station in the Vega system, there will be a Vanduul attack and you try to flee. You will be heavily wounded and fall in a coma for several months, when you wake up your face has to be reconstructed. On a monitor in the hospital you see the speech of Admiral Bishop.
  • You will start as a rookie pilot on the Idris frigate Stanton, this will be your home for the largest part of the first campaign, later you can be promoted to a Bengal larger Carrier.
  • The campaign will only take place place in the Odin system, except obviously the Vega intro.
  • There will be about 20 main story missions and a large amount of side missions, together about 80-90 missions. Some of the side missions will only unlock if you have a good standing with other squad members.
  • John Rhys Davies will be the commander of the mining Station.
  • The Odin system is an open world, when you are not on duty you can explore and do side missions.
  • The missions will be about 30% fps and 70% space combat.
  • There was an example for a mission where you could use different approaches. You can go the normal space combat route, destroy the defending ships, land and enter the station. Or you could go a more sneaky way, park your ship behind an asteroid and fly in your hard to detect spacesuit to the station, disable the communications array and hack the defense turrets so they attack the enemy ships.
  • The Stanton will be always flying around in the system, you can land the refill when a mission is running or land on an resupply station.
  • You can use( steal/borrow?) other spaceships that are parked around the system.
  • When the developement reaches a certain point the Game will split into seperately sold Star Citizen an Squadron 42.
  • There will be no ground Landing in the first part of the campaign, everything happens in space.

  • The first campaign of SQ42 will only play in the Odin System, seemingly the Coil nebula storm is the biggest attraction/highlight in there.
  • The Character John Rhys-Davies plays seemingly heads a Mining Platform that plays an important role in the first campaign of SQ42
  • You will be able to explore the Odin System to a certain extent that your military duty allows (you are going to be able to do side-missions, i.e. talking to crew allows you to access such missions) they compare it to the FarCry open-world system: side-missions that you are able to do until a story mission is required to advance -> 80-90 missions structured in 20 chapters, that make the full first campaign, that should last between 30-40h.
  • Gamestar was not able to see or play any missions for themselves, however they were told that the Devs already can play (rudimentary) all missions of the campaign.
  • 30% of the campaign seemingly is going to be FPS, both Erin and Chris said that there will be elements that leave you with a lot of freedom but they will also have heavily scripted sequences analog to CoD etc.
  • You will stay on the Idris "Stanton" in SQ42's first campaign and it's seemingly not going to focus exclusively on the Vanduul in the first campaign, as the Stanton is on a routine patrol in that system, they basically say that they want us to slowly advance (have a proper build-up) to the main conflict and that you have to earn your place on the later Bengal. They claim that we are going to see about 5% of the full scope that is to be the Star Citizen universe.
  • They also haven't finalized the Vanduul interiour style yet
  • Planetary spacestations and planetary surface missions not in for the first campaign, might seemingly come in the second and third campaign of SQ42
  • Simulated NPC crew activity on the Idris should be a lot more busy than shown on the Morrow Tour on Citizencon.
  • We will be able to call in backup mid-mission, if there are still ships available on the Stanton.
  • We will be able to exchange ships, or resupply on fuel and armaments mid-mission if we land on equipment docks or back at the Stanton.
  • UEE seemingly will provide a limited selection of ships, including Gladius, Hornet and Retaliator, but we will also be able to claim unused ships, i.e. ships landed at stations etc.
  • They have about 60h of filmed footage, obviously not all will be used.
  • They describe one mission, which is a base infiltration, allowing you three ways to enter: guns blazing or a more stealthy approach or a combination of both. What they describe sounds a lot like Deus Ex.
  • They also write that enemy reinforcements are not spawned, but are actually planned to be part of the map, doing their own patrols etc. So if you tackle them before taking on the main target, your job will be a lot easier.
  • You will be able to hack turrets.

I watched one of those videos and one of the suggested videos on the side was titled "Star Citizen's Historic First Teabag - Alpha 2.0 PTU, CIG dev kill!".

Yeah that's really what I want out of this game... getting teabagged by random 12 year olds because I have a job and a life and am not 1337 enough. Why oh why did they have to go the MMO route?

There will be a slider where you can choose how many players will be in your instance (not yet implemented). Or something like that.
In addition, there will be save areas where players cannot or should not attack you. In the outer (uncontrolled) areas it may always be potentially dangerous.

I was happy when I went. It was scary. The sound is great.

There is a lot more to discover. This game has the most high res assets and textures I have seen so far. For an an open world MMO this is extremely spectacular. I can approach textures centimeters and the most are still very sharp (if desired, I can upload screens). The animations have improved massively and compared to STAR WARS Battlefront there were better now. It still takes at least a year until the publication.

With the help of this I could play the PTU offline without crashes.

Yeah, there are of course a few bugs but I really enjoyed it. I am pleased when I can play more tomorrow.

Insane quality. Part of me hopes it takes another year or so to come out so I can buy new equipment for it lol

@kolsto
No, still nothing official. I appreciate that the single player part (Squadron 42) will come in the fourth quarter of 2016th. They said 2016. In my opinion, the multiplayer (Star Citizen) will appear the earliest in the end of 2016 and will then steadily increased.

Alpha 2.0 should be followed by further releases such as Alpha 2.1. Alpha 2.1 and 2.2 for example, will include social components like shopping in stores and modifying the character (persistent). This week they will probalbly say (in the Interview with Tony Zurovec) what will come after that.

I've played Arena Commander maybe 20 hours in the years. But the Alpha 2.0 makes me addicted. After two weeks I've played so much already.

@Malo
Yeah, I will again buy a new graphics card. Hopefully Pascal comes sooner.

1 year, least....not so much considering how big project is.
