Sony VR Headset/Project Morpheus/PlayStation VR

I can't help but think Sony must be planning on creating a new pad for the device too. It'd save them having to package both a DS4 and Move into the complete PS4 and PSVR package. The pad should be able to be used for both normal and VR games.

Those old patents come to mind but I think we'll have lights on both parts like the DS4 rather than the balls.

They still have the rights to the property though, you can have someone else make the game. Personally I would want a proper evolution of the series gameplay like we really haven't gotten since the first version.

I also hope that No Man's Sky gets VR support. Not sure how it could work when you leave the ship though.

It's not even on the radar though, is it? Seems a perfect launch title and a meaningful echo of the original wipEout that launched the original PS to much fanfare. If VR is to be big, having a flagship title to show it off (made the studio with the expertise in creating the series?) in the same way they did with VR has a poetry about it. Also wouldn't be the most expensive title to develop.

I wonder if they tried a prototype and it just didn't work, like too fast or something? Maybe they tried an early prototype at 60 fps before 90 and 120 fps refresh were possible and gave up?

@Shifty Geezer or its more about nausea problem that they cant minimize enough?
playing wipeout on normal 2D screen is already puke inducing for me.

btw your post made me realized that PSVR games is all new game, not sequel.

I don't know, I don't think WipeOut has the cachet for being a big launch VR title, but I could definitely see it coming eventually.

Personally I loved boxing games with the Move controller, and in VR you could actually see a lot of depth, have perfect head tracking etc. But I am also really curious about good 3D platformers and of course space stuff like Elite, and car sims should be perfect as well.

BlinkVR will be fine for it since the game is slowpaced even on foot.

As for Wipeout, I hope Evolution just adds few of the ships into the DriveClub SeasonPass 2.
Nice.

In case anyone is interested, BlinkVR:

I tried the Gear VR this weekend, with a Galaxy S6.
Responsiveness is great. It's very light and comfortable too. I experienced zero motion sickness or anything of the like during that half-hour.

But damn, you do need a high resolution in it. Despite the phone's 2560*1440 resolution (1280*1440 per eye), all 3D demos I tried were obviously being rendered at a much lower resolution and that is very noticeable as everything seems downright foggy.
I hope they increase the resolution on all the commercial headsets, Playstation VR included. 960*1080 per eye just doesn't seem like it'll be good at all.

You can't really compare a 1280*1440 screen showing content running at a lower res to a 960*1080 screen showing content running at native res, with AA probably.

I know, and I wish I could figure out what resolution those demos were being rendered at, for comparison.

Yeah so what he should have said and what is Shifty's point also, you do really need a lot of rendering power for VR at a decent resolution and if the PS4 will already be struggling for native red at decent frame rates we shouldn't expect too much from phones.

Also phones are often quite challenged at getting a stable frame rate.

I am hoping to try my iPhone 6 Plus with Homido VR soon.

@ToTTenTranz the weird thing is, the jornlists that tried PS VR written in their article the picture is good, sharp, no mesh effect.

maybe the lenses and the RGBW pixel works great?

I would say it was there but after a while you 'adjust' to it. Didn't help that the demo started with text which looked awful...once in demo the pixel effect was clear to see but soon became less apparent (to me anyway). I think it was just the initial shock as I was expecting a really clear picture.

there is still screen door , its just greatly reduced from DK 2 . All the newer panels are a step up from DK2 which uses a note 3 screen (which is 2 years old now)

Mr Fox posted some nice images of what RGB and Pentile look like as resolution scales. I'm not sure where it was posted but maybe he can put them up again.

^Hands and face tracking is indeed enough to create believable feel of human-to-person communication.

After great reception of Kitchen demo for PSVR, Capcom has announced that their central team [Development Division 1] which was responsible for all core Resident Evil games will focus much of their attention on building VR content. This includes "creation of the new engine" [most probably tweaking of their tried and true MT Framework]. This VR push at Capcom is led by RE5 producer Jun Takeuchi.

It is so nice to see a big Japanese publisher that is embracing the future and sticking with new consoles/hardware [unlike Konami].

Eeerm sorry I had this window open for some hours so I wrote my post without looking at Shifty's.

Is there any chance Sony will make the Playstation VR available to other platforms? Have they commented on it?
