Sony PS3 games £39.99

True, surprising. £5 less than 360 first party RRPs, if I'm not mistaken, and the same as Wii games RRP.

The downloadable pricing also looks very keen. Looks like Europe should get Tekken DR cheaper than anywhere else, for example (if not other titles also). And it looks like the UK might get stuff even cheaper based on current currency conversions, if some reports are true (i.e. that downloadable games will range from £2-£6 - £6 is currently less than €9).

conversion rate is currently about 1.9USD to 1GBP, so £6 ~ $11.40

Sure, but I was converting to euro and comparing to the upper end of the euro range (which is higher).

£6 is the upper end in the UK (apparently), and that would be less than €9, compared to €9.99 as an upper end in euro-land.

Anyway, whether you're paying in Euros or sterling, it looks like you might get some things relatively very cheaply, at least in this introductory period.

I wonder if the UK store will accept european credit cards, or only UK ones..since it could be a little cheaper to use it if those reports are true.

It is clear I am still going to get the shaft from Sony, but it is much less than I was expecting.

I was expecting them to do the same as MS (at launch) and convert the dollar into sterling on a 1 to 1 basis.

Hopefully it is now going to be hard for people like EA to justify charging £45~55 for PS3 games.

What are XB download prices in the UK for comparison?

I believe £17.50 or so buys you 2100 marketplace points, and the most expensive games are about 1200 points, so that makes those games £10. The only game I know of that costs that is Lumines, most games are 800 points which would be £6.66 or so.

So the prices are 400, 800 and 1200 points, which translates to 1.2 points per penny, £3.33, £6.66 and £10.

Are there smaller points amounts purchaseable than 2100? That's a snidy little sales number there! Paying in units of 400, after a few purchases you'll have 100 - 300 points left over, and if you want another 400 point download, that'll be another £17.50 you'll have to spend to get it. That's why a nice round 2400 point card isn't sold!

This news is rather old. Amazon had first party titles all listed for £39.99 for quite some time now.

Play's had them listed at £50 RRP since they've been available, to it's certainly news to them!

Ahahaha. I've noticed they're a bit slow with their pricing updates. HMV online has Blu-Ray movies listed cheaper than Play. I was quite shocked by that.
