Sony PlayStation cross-platform game strategy

A job advertising for creating PC software maybe a PC launcher for the Sony games or maybe just some job on the Sony SDK for windows.

Unlikely to be a launcher as those aren't typically programmed using C++ or a similar language. They'll generally be using something higher level and closer to languages that are dominant for webdev.

However, it does sound like this is related to PSN on PC. So, potentially an engineer for the software backend for a PC storefront.

A lot of wording about secure environments as well as a blurb about "technologies that keep our players safe." IE - protecting against attacks from the net, data security, system security, etc.

The helpful but not required bits are likely related to having to work with and potentially interface with the teams working on the user facing side of a PSN storefront on PC (which may or may not include a separate launcher outside of just a web based interface). IE - it's helpful to be familiar with the tools and environment that the team you'll be interfacing with are using.

Regards,
SB

Steam's client and SDK is all C++, as is the Epic Games client. If you want solid cross-platform operability, or have legacy code, then C++ is still going to be your Go To choice. You have good Windows, macOS (UNIX) and linux (incl. PS4 and PS5) interoperability.

The post could be anything, but clearly includes SDK work. Sony's SN Systems division do the PlayStation SDK and toolsets but they aren't based in San Francisco, unless they are setting up there.

PS3?!

Edit: report says a few games, only classic MGS games. Could just be some ports. No indicator they go so far as PS3 emulation.

It's weird they specify Sony but metal gear solid is owned by Konami. So shouldent it be "Konami is rumored to be bringing ports to PC?"
GOG already has Metal Gear and Metal Gear Solid available. Metal Gear Solid is a GOG'd version of the older PC release, but Metal Gear is neither the old PC version nor the NES version, nor just the MSX version emulated. I think it's derived from the version included in the Legacy Collection.

Sony continue to hire for PC port of PS studi games.

  • Provide high-quality testing support for PlayStation Studios and SIE PC game products
  • Performing PC compatibility testing processes
  • Highlighting and raising testing risks to global and regional service owners, Lead Compat Specialists, and Global/regional PC Compat Service owners.

Next Nixxes game on PC could be Ratchet and Clank.

Nixxes are looking for an UI/UX engineer that has "experience in using Coherent middleware", a middleware that is known to be used in Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart.

Coherent Labs lists Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart as a game that utilises their technology, with Rift Apart being the only game listed on the company's website that is a PlayStation exclusive. This lends credence to the belief that Rift Apart is Nixxes' latest PlayStation-to-PC project.

I hope they expand on the RT implementation. While the reflections were great in the PS5 version, the lighting was lacking in other aspects as pointed out by Digital Foundry. A PC port is a great opportunity to address that. It's probably too much to expect RTGI but here's hoping!

If it is llike Spiderman, they will add RT shadows.

Naughty Dog did TLOU Part 1 port internally and they will continue to do like this for future game like TLOU mp games.

If they are wanting Monies, they must be keen to create a F2P BR type game; or certainly multiplayer survival something.
Tlou factions part 2 has been on the books for a while. That's their live service money grabber.

The original factions was pvp arena only but maybe factions 2 is more survivaley or battle royaley

Sony is going to be doubling down on releasing their games to PCs, their PC sales has increased significantly in 2022 compared to 2021.

I'm certain more PC games are coming, but you're summary of this article isn't close to accurate.

In short, the first three financial quarters of 2022 were similar to 2021, Q4 was massively higher (a 280% jump) which which resulted in the overall financial year being about double the previous year. What the article makes clear is that Sony throw a lot of random sales into the "Other" category that boomed, including PSVR2 which launched in Q4.

PC Gamer said:
But while we can't extract PC game releases specifically from that [Other] category, there's no doubt that it was a very big year for Sony on the PC. Sony's FY2022 releases on Steam include Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Returnal, and The Last of Us Part 1.

If PC sales are up over last year, why is only one quarter different? Maybe there was a massive sale in Q4? No idea, but it's difficult to explain or attribute this PC sales increases - apart from releasing more games will generally mean more sales. Apart form TLoU Pt I of course!

Not similar though, Q1 is up 15%, Q2 is up 30%, Q3 is up 70%, and Q4 is up by more than 2X.
  • Q1 FY21 - ¥47,161 ($385.8 million)
  • Q2 FY21 - ¥41,356 ($303.2 million)
  • Q3 FY21 - ¥47,351 ($347.2 million)
  • Q4 FY21 - ¥51,702 ($379.1 million)

  • Q1 FY22 - ¥60,478 ($443.6 million)
  • Q2 FY22 - ¥54,508 ($399.8 million)
  • Q3 FY22 - ¥82,031 ($601.7 million)
  • Q4 FY22 - ¥142,900 ($1.048 billion)
That's what increased significantly means.

But again in the other categorie there is the PSVR 2 a 550 dollars/600 euros headset. Not only PC games.
