Difference in approach. Around E3 Sony had shipped ~100 development kits. Microsoft had shipped ~4000.

A lot of Sony E3 stuff is what developers are trying to aim for with final hardware. I don't think devs had final hardware or close to what final hardware would be, besides having a Cell CPU.mckmas8808 said:Xbox 360 developers should now have somewhat if not the final hardware of Xbox 360. So from here on, no excuses.
You're right no excuses. And I have to ask this question. If PS3 devs will have closer to final hardware for a longer time than X360 devs will this be an advantage for Sony?
Maybe as an excuse for the underwhelming graphics or/and performance?mckmas8808 said:Why did MS give devs a machine thats soooo much weaker?

"One of the basic premises of the Xbox is to put the power in the hands of the artist," Blackley said, which is why Xbox developers "are achieving a level of visual detail you really get in 'Toy Story.'"

Following his introduction was a limited demonstration of the Xbox by Seamus Blackley, one of Microsoft's key ambassadors to the gaming industry. He previewed two upcoming games due to be included in the Xbox's launch, Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee and Malice from Argonaut Games (Croc and Croc 2).
Both games were run using an Xbox development kit, something that Seamus was quick to point out would only be able to run at a fifth of the Xbox's final capabilities (those last few state-of-the-art chips, remember?). He played the games in real-time, showing that these were not pre-rendered clips and the result was a few minutes of gameplay that was very smooth with full sound.
The level of graphics performance wasn't enough to outdo a top end PC system, but they were cutting edge enough for the console market. What really stood out were certain details, like the veins in Munch's eyes and forehead seen when Seamus zoomed in on the main character in Munch's Oddysee, or the way that Malice's sweet young curls bounced about her head as she proceeded to smash little bugs with a massive mallet.
Unlike Munch's Oddysee, which is the next in an already familiar series (albeit one that will take place in a much richer and more detailed environment), Malice is an original title introducing a new character, a deceptively sweet young girl with a surprising potential for violence. It's a game that Seamus touted for its graphics.
"These guys are achieving the level of visual detail that you really did get in Toy Story" he said before directing young Malice to run an ominous machine called the "deathroller" over a fleet of wriggling bugs. A close-up on the innocent, mallet-wielding moppet showed a petite, yet lean little girl hiding under large round eyes and a set of flouncing curls. Seamus expressed that the Xbox allows for much of the graphics design to be placed into the hands of the character designer, offering a level of emotion that "only characters in films have had to date".

Toy Story graphics remark? Are you talking about MS, because I have yet to find that comment that clearly states Sony will have Toy Story graphics. Did we also forget that the PS2 was a harder to develope for, since it was a totally new and different system?hasanahmad said:BTOA said:A lot of Sony E3 stuff is what developers are trying to aim for with final hardware. Mark Rein (Epic)
On PS3 dev kit:
"The only thing was, even though we had these ass-kicking Nvidia 6800 Ultra SLI systems, when we got the actual RSX card, even though it's not running anywhere near full speed, it was more than twice as fast as our SLI setup."
On X360
"It (non final X360 kit) is about 30 percent right?
We think it's 25% [chuckles] ."
Do you have the source for Sony said Toy Story? Perhaps in your dream?hasanahmad said:I'm sorry but Microsoft said that about TS 2 while Sony said that about TS1. but Sony were at it again saying thats how its going to look while MS didnt repeat the statement. Who will you trust now?

its even more hilarious that when the poster replies he says there are alot of other positives and negatives but posts only negatives
The better question is: Why are they allowed to stay?
