What you don't understand is that no kind of blur/glow etc will be able to reduce jaggies so effectively without making that image a total low frequency/soft looking mess. This it's not a opinion, it's math.
BLur is so cheap on current hw that I wonder why current games don't use is to have a so perfect AA as in those shots.

Slight blur + high resolution = that picture.

Isn't "high-res-image-downsized-to-a-lower-res-image" ultimately the principle of AA? ;)

Sure but that's not why that picture is blurred.

Isn't blurring a form of AA? ;)

Yeah..know try to sample an image at 4x resolution to achieve that kind of quality :)

What are you showing us? is there a picture?

I'm faily certain it's Xbox 2, as that those two lines you see under the EA logo seem to tell us somehting.

I think he's referrering to that text "visual target" as in that's what they expect the game to look like.

Yeah, the same picture posted all over this thread. The one with the face close-up.

Admitedly these new pictures don't really look as good as that first one with two guys on the ground, but I'm just posting what it says on EA info site.

OK, if Xbox 360 games can look this good, will anyone even care if it's "less powerful" than PS3?
Some people will care, some won't. Nothing we didn't see over and over again in the past years.

umm.... the people on the sidelines are 2d :(

Heh, you can complain to the people wanting "more textures and bump mapping" instead of more geometry. At least those 2D cardboard spectators will be hi-res 2D cardboard spectators... :?

i thought that was the point of less geometry. well, less per player so you can have more 3d characters on the screen at once.

Yeah because having super high detailed players with sprites in the crowd and sidelines would look horrible. I???d rather have less per player and full 3D crowds, sidelines, and refs. Why don???t we see the refs more doing every play? We see them when we watch a real game

Huh....how do you guys know thats cardbox 2d? We dont have a close up so we cant really tell, and actually if you spend time looking at it, it looks 3d because for example look at the guy with the yeallow shirt far right, he his bending is knee, and bottom of the leg goes back, so thats not 2d sprites.

I say its 3d, but the folks at the stadium should be just higher rez 2d, i mean i dont think it would make much sense at all in having them all 3d :?:

Full 3D crowds are needed, snow on uniforms are needed, snow melting when in the middle of the game it stops snowing is needed. Thats the whole point of the game being NEXT GEN!!!! There has to be a jump somewhere more than just the players. Right?

That's expected too much, they are just games consoles after all.
No full simulations of snow sticking and melting on clothes, at least on games with several characters on screen. Something close representations of such phenomenons could be done with changing textures but that's fakin it.

There must be some relevance also. Just because the game has "ultra realistic weather features" dosen´t make it more fun. You have to have balance..

For example..
Shenmue. Everyone talked about how much "freedom" you had etc.. and at start, you were kind of amazed that you could open drawers and closets etc.. but really.. how fun was that?

but sure.. for Madden, weather has an importance, if it rains, then the field gets muddier and this affects gameplay and textures of the players but this will without a doubt be incorporated to a great extent..

but snow melting on the crowds etc.. seriously... who gives a wtf... :D

i'm quite sure the people on the sidelines are 2D. do they *need* to be 3d? no. it doesn't really affect gameplay. but at this point we should be beyond 2d sidelines.

i want to go on the record and say what i said months ago...
this coming generation will add little to gameplay or graphics that couldn't be done last generation with some sacrifices. compare these images to those of the best looking ones of the current generation and there's little difference beyond the constant use of certain features (depth of field ect that we say this generation already) and resolution.

There's no way to make a football game look like this on current gen hardware at an interactive frame rate. Did you see those pictures of football games on xbox already? it's a night and day difference.

Now taking that into account, I've said this before... Don't expect anything better then what you've seen in unreal 3 to appear on any of the next gen consoles. You'll get that quality level (from some games) but not much above that.
