Rumor: Slim PS3 on the way?

Its not so far fetched that the market stall only got 1 device in stock/display. The stalls are small and they don't have big stocks and probably not the economy to have it either. Basically they buy one and sell, then get the next one etc.

It has happened to me numerous time when you want to buy something from one stall, they do not have it, but they run to a stall further down and "borrow" theirs and sell that to me and reimburse the original stall/store. And not just in the Philippines, but Thailand and S.Korea also.

And it ties in with Chinese manufacturing leaks. So are we to believe the leaks were fake, and then someone copied the leaks to an elaborate degree only to the sell the phony product at a Filipino market? Surely there are better ways to make money, especially illicitly!

But the pictures that were leaked could well have been of this Vii like device in the first place, it would have to be being manufactured somewhere afterall. I admit though the pink pads in the pics did look like it was being manufactured in the same place as the current PS3, but its quite possible that many electronics manufacturers over there are fitted out in a similar way?

But why would they be creating a 'Vii' that doesn't resemble the original console, why come out with a new design? We already have fake PS3s.

Point taken. Although the Vii doesnt look exactly like the Wii either...

And why try to sell a fake for $410...

Selling the only known PS3 Slim out there for $410 doesnt make much sense either.

Even as a fake i would expect it to sell for even more than that.

Normally fakes will try to avoid infringement of trademark, by having the trademark alter a little bit. Looking at this, they would get sue by Sony. But Sony surely need a cheaper PS3 rather soon.

Store like this don't stock PS3s like they do Walmart. So maybe this is the PS3 they got since Sony isn't making the older model anymore.

So a fake PS3 should sell for more than a PS3?

If it is sold as the real deal then it would be priced to reflect that no? The fact that it is not being sold at an increased price raises suspicion. The worse thing you could do when trying to pass off a fake of something as the real deal is undevalue it.

It probably is the real thing im playing devils advocate more than anything.

The PS3 could be passed off as P53 maybe but yea the PS logo on the front would be a definate infringement.

If the bloke who made that video is reading this, I'll pay him to go back, buy the unit and ship it to me, plus bung him some cash for himself into the bargain.

Supposedly someone went and bought this, actually. And it might not even be a Filipino national, but an Indian, hahaha. The plot thickens!

I see your logic here, but as the Slim hasn't been released, this seller may anticipate a Slim being released at a lower price than the current PS3, hence selling it at $410 would be an increased price?

He may also be selling it at the current standard PS3 price because, he may be aware, that it's a faulty defective unit....

There could be many reasons for his quoted sale price...

Maybe he's just selling it at the normal price to avoid suspicion, hence customer buyers there wouldn't have a clue if it's something new or not?

Fixed :p The typo was bugging me, lol, I kept trying to figure out what "undevalue" meant!

Anyway, It could very well be a case of the shop owner simply not knowing what he has. It could be a lot of things. Speculating is kinda silly at this point.

Either way, I'm fairly convinced it's real. I can't imagine this "hoax" would be going on this long and Sony would not step in and say something. The fact that they've remained mostly silent and avoided any kind of discussion on this pretty much confirms this is the real thing.

He might be selling a fake and doesn't want to draw much attention or he might be selling a real Slim that isn't functional. There are a plethora of reasons he might sell a PS3 (real or fake) at the original retail price.

I can't remember exactly, but weren't the psone/two (slims) introduced at the same price as the out going original fat models?

As to why $410, going back to rumors, is that the guy bought this console for $250 and then decided to sell it for $410, the price of the PS3 in the Philippines. Determined investigators are hunting him down as we speak.

Also, as a total non-confirmation, GAFers are spotting deals on 80s and 160s all over, including a pretty crazy Canadian PS3 bundle at Wal-Mart:

Ya, this story is getting weird.

So... here it goes...

I'm not saying there wasn't one in Greenhills. It's possible for it to resurface this week in that store owned by that indian guy who last bought it.

We went to the original store where the slim PS3 was displayed and talked to the guy whom I think owns the stall (he's the same guy in the video).

Here are the things he said:
* unit was bought from some dude who got the unit from the US.
* there are two units but only one unit was for sale (the one he got).
* it was sold to him because it cannot be modded (LOL).
* they tested a PS3 game (Unreal Tournament III) and it worked.
* they tested an unknown (not bootlegged) PS2 game from an unknown region, the PS3 detected the disc, it didn't work. SUCKS!
* hard drive slot is underneath when placed horizontally.
* slim PS3 cannot be placed vertically without some sort of a stand unlike the fat one.
* he got it for 12K PhP.
* there was some sort of packaging but it's not a retail box.
* it came with the necessary cables and a DS3.
* he sold the unit to an indian fellow who has a game store in Bridgeway for 22K PhP.
* he said the indian dude was planning on creating a customized box for it (I guess for it to look like something that is being sold in retail).
* slim PS3 is almost the same size as the fat PS2.
* he's unaware of the firmware installed.
* it's possible for him to get another unit next month.
* when asked about any contact information of the dude that sold the unit to him, he declined giving it.

Okay... I don't believe everything he said but I've got a gut feeling the slim PS3 that he got is real. It's possible he's only covering his tracks.

Then we went to the store of that indian guy but he's nowhere to be found. The slim PS3 is nowhere to be found as well. But I did talk to one of his employees.

* she confirmed her boss got one yesterday.
* it's not in the store.

The employee was hesitant in answering my questions. I don't know why. LOL

LOL, man the Internet is so damn cool. The news of this would never spread so rapidly before. I bet the guy that sold it was totally in awe that people knew about it so fast. LOL

Sounds more and more ridiculous and fake. You wouldn't expect the PS3 slim to show up first in the states, so it becomes pretty incredulous.

I'm not sure why all the interest over a basic new form factor anyway.

All I know is if the slim is currently in the wild, show me the money! That's the bottom line.

Although I dont doubt it is in the works and for this fall.
