RTX4070ti on the way - Some concerns over the power plug

Decided to treat myself and get an RTX4070ti to replace my 3060ti but after seeing all the drama over the power plug melting I'm a little anxious.

How have people found it? Do you feel the reports of it being user error with people just not plugging it in all the way?

Congratulations!

I wasn't aware the issue impacted the 4070Ti? In any case it looks pretty easy to not push it in all the way (I was very careful to make sure I did), hasn't melted yet!

That's good to hear!

I got the Zotac card for Ā£830 off Scan and it should be here tomorrow.

With the 4060ti still having 8GB VRAM the 4070ti was the only real choice.

The 4070Ti generally gets by on just a 2x PCIE 8-pin to 12VHPWR adapter (some OC models seem to come with a 3x - my Gigabyte Gaming OC does not). It's even less of a concern than with the 4-way adapters on 4090s.

This card is a monster!

Dying Light 2 ultra settings and ultra RT and locked 60fps in the 30 minutes I've played it for at NATIVE 1440p šŸ¤Æ

But yea, I hate the power connector

Yeah I've had a lot of fun putting it through its paces. It's really highlighting my CPU limitation now though in a couple of games. Unfortunately I've no spare money for an upgrade just yet.

Congrats, youve got ballpark 3090Ti performance there, with the addition of the newer features too at almost half the tdp.
Still amazing considering the 3090/Ti was last gens ā€™titanā€™ flagship at a much higher price.

enjoy it and keep sharing your impressions. Tbh, I didn't know the 4070Ti was out already. Compared to the 4090 and 4080..., I guess it does fit in the case?

Imho, this is going to be the best selling card of this generation, until the 4060 comes out.

Hi dude,

So far the upgrade was worth every penny.

I went for the Zotac card which while a big card it's no where near as large as the 4080's and 4090's, it's a nice fit in to my Lian Li 205M mATX case.

The 3060ti it replaced was a good card, it was just a little off the mark with some games being 20-30fps short of my 120fps target which the 4070ti has completely fixed and now everything I've tested so far (that doesn't have ray tracing) is locked at 120fps.

Then there's ray tracing, some games I could lock to 60fps at native 1440p, some games I could lock to 60fps with the help of DLSS and some games were 10-15fps shy of a locked 60fps, which again the 4070ti has completely cleared up.

The raw RT performance is easily double on the 4070ti vs 3060ti which is what I was most interested in.

The extra 4GB VRAM is nice too as there was a few games that were right on the 8GB limit of the 3060ti, the VRAM is also what put me off the 4060/4060ti as all leaks indicate they're still 8GB card which is not enough imo.

DLSS3 also feels so much better in use than I expcted it too.

About fitting the case... mine in fact did not. At least not some Cooler Master mid tower I've been using for years (not sure about the model).

I had read about the Gigabyte Gaming OC having this very large 3 fan cooler but I underestimated just how ridiculously large it really is.
It absolutely dwarfs both the 3080Ti and 2080Ti models I have, and this seems rather silly because 4070Ti cooling requirements just aren't all that great.
Oversized coolers seems to be a thing a lot of 4070Ti models have in common. Sadly, there is no snazzy Founders Edition available to show OEMs how it could be done.

So yeah, it turned out I could not install it in the PC I had in mind, and instead had to put it in another one that is in a CM Elite 500 case. And took its 3080Ti to put in this PC.
As both of these are almost identical 5900X systems, it works out. But I was certainly annoyed. And would caution others to check closely before buying.

You should go my route of you can in terms of CPU and mobo upgrade.

The money from my 3600 and AM4 motherboard covered 85% of the cost for me to move to Intel.

I've decided to sell the old GTX 1070 (I usually just stick my old components in a cupboard) as well as my 3700x and 16GB DDR4 3200Mhz and pick up a 5800X3D + 32GB DDR4 3600Mhz with the proceeds. Looks like I'll only have to put Ā£130-Ā£150 of my own money to it which I can absolutely live with. Should be a pretty well balanced system once done!

EDIT: actually found some better deals so should only have to put Ā£50-Ā£100 of my own money towards it. No brainer!

I had the 5800X3D delimea when I was on AM4 but decided against it because not every game benefits from the increased cache where as every game benefits from the higher IPC on 12th gen Intel.

There's also slightly more upgradability in socket 1700 where the 5800X3D is it for AM4, there is no better.

This the board I have now: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004591287574.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.main.1.2af237e273Ra6D&pdp_ext_f={"sku_id":"12000029751037909"}&pdp_npi=2@dis!GBP!226.36!133.55!!!!!@2145265416749384263106000d06e7!12000029751037909!sea&curPageLogUid=ybnL4pQ9u7rj

Toss in a used 12400f and overclock it to 5Ghz+ for a set-up cost of Ā£300.

Then 12-18 months later on chuck in a locked 12 core i7 12700f and overclock that too.

I don't know what cooler you have atm but you may need a beefy cooler for 5800X3D, if you are to PBO2 that sucker. Very powerful yet all in a single small CCD.

This is my card in my mATX case.

Excuse the cables, I hadn't finished tidying them up at that point.
