IGN seems to think the graphics and art direction are just unbelievable, and that includes textures.

I guess we'll see how it goes when we actually get to try the game as opposed to looking at screenshots.

Yeah the only reason IGN didn't give RE4 a 10 for graphics was because of the widescreen. Which apparently isn't proper widescreen. Though personally I'd see that kind of thing more in the presentation catagory then in the graphics catagory.. but whatever.

PS2 has made quite a few leaps in graphics during its time. If its going to get a totally full port of RE4 IMO its going to have to make another one of those leaps. I can't see it happening, you can only push a system so far.

Well now, that would be just too logical, don't you think!?

Skwptical here too. Personally, i think many people will be happy to see the same level of graphics they saw in Onimusha3 and a few other games. Even though it's not on par with RE4 on GC.

Indeed, since they're porting it in supposedly 10 months total. (including debugging & going gold) DMC team or not, expect both texture & detail tone downs. Decreased simultaneous on-screen characters & lighting as well. Why would anyone wait that long though? The GC is currently dirt cheap now, this in addition to the new LOZ should merit a purchase alone. (esp. in the UK & PAL territories) I'm expecting an Onimusha 3 style port. As IMO that was Capcom's finest visual work upon the PS2. And the Studio 4 team was genuinely shocked when an impending port was announced to shareholders, (including Mikami) so I doubt they were being deved. concurrently. Also DMC, DMC2, & DMC3 don't hold a candle to RE4. (yes, I'm aware 2 was deved. by a different team, does the same hold true for 3 as well?)

Well, there are many reasons why a PS2 would sell a lot regardless whether the game has been released 10 months before on GC, but i guess the biggest would be the 75M-18M= 57M difference. That's how many people own a PS2 but not a GC.

Some people don't want a second or third console. There are already too many great games for me to buy and play, and I only own a PS2. I can pick up a greatest hits RE4 for $20 if I wait until 2006, and by then I might even have time to play it. Or I can buy a GameCube, RE4, and a memory card today for about $170. That's a lot of money to spend on games (for some people).

Essentially, that's the same reason I don't buy a console until everyone has theirs out and I can see what type of games and market penetration they have. I don't want to buy a console and sell it later or buy another. My goal is to have one console per generation. (The last time I had two was when I had a SNES and a Genesis. I eventually sold the Genesis.)

That's why backwards compatibility is important to me. I already have a DVD player and a game console. I don't want a DVD player, two new game consoles, and three old consoles. If I want to play a SNES game, I have to find a place and hook it up (or run an emulator). My PS1 is in a box somewhere, but I can still play all the PS1 games I have without digging it out. That's useful.

Considering the type of deals Nintendo has been offering (GCN+MK:DD+ExtraController=$99) I think it is sick that more people haven't bought this system. It really goes to show you what the general public thinks of the competition.

I talked to a guy at Wal-Mart who said he'd rather get a DS than a 'Cube because "the graphics suck". I mean, what..?

I think you nailed the problem right there... You talked to a guy at Wal-Mart. :p

Of course most people don't look at graphics quality with a technical eye, but with their own personal views on game style and art direction. Since Nintendo's most stand-out titles sill remain as Mario games, many people will look at the "kiddie" graphics and just think they suck in comparison to even Joe Blow Wrestling game, which is at least aiming at more realism.

MP2 and RE4 being the most prominent games of late and in close proximity to each other should improve things. ^_^

But regardless... you talked to a guy at Wal-Mart.

Personally I think it's too late to matter. Your definition of "a ton of systems" may be different than mine but LOZ won't really make a bit of difference in this console generation. It's over and done with, time to bury the dead.

News about the PS3/Xbox2/Revolution will only pick up steam and squash consumer desire to buy a GCN.

    GMR - 100%

    GameSpy - 100%

    IGN - 98%

    eToyChest - 96%

Its doing ok so far :)

    Ty

There is still money to be made and I'm sure nobody wants to finish last, plus a strong finish can only help next gen. Companies don't just say "they sold more then us and we can't catch them, right end of competition lets go home and get ready for next year" This is business, not the olympics..

It was the night that the DS came out and despite my pre-order at EB, I decided to test the kiosk since it was local!

Coincidentally, I saw a woman that I really like from my bowling league in the same section.. which kept me lingering long enough to meet the Wal-Mart guy. So you see, I had good reason for being there.

Sex and Nintendo, you show me a better 1-2 punch.

This game MIGHT spike GCN sales by 200k or so, but that would be quite a stretch. It's just not relevant anymore. The Cube has no momentum anymore. Back to the topic at hand: I'm thinking of picking this one up or at least giving it a rent. I'm still digesting all the reviews.

Do the characters' hair flow well? Something I just realized that I haven't seen (only been looking at the screenshots).

re4 and loz will sell alot more than 200k .

There are a ton of re fans and this one actualy looks good , and there are alot of loz fans and this is the first one to catch up with those of us who played the first one as kids and it will sell huge . My friend picked up the gamecube at best buy with mariokart and the extra controller just so he can get these two games / IN the end it wont matter , mabye enought o beat out the xbox mabye not ,but having 2 great games launching in its last year of life is a good thing , esp if they both get such strong reviews , this can only help the next system
