Renegade repair thread

Did I mention the AC went wonky two days after getting it back and it's engine started running really rough? She's been back at the dealers since Tuesday with no freaking clue on what's wrong with the engine and no idea on when we'll get her back.

Jeeps, they're not just a vehicle but a lifestyle!

Heh, typical Jeep. :p My father traded in his Jeep about a decade ago for a Subaru and he couldn't be happier. That Subaru is not only more reliable with a nicer ride but it also drives better.

I wonder, if you got an electric jeep, will that be "a labor of love" too?

Or it'll be like a reliable appliance?

It just overheated on my wife and by the time she limped it home her dashboard was lit up like a christmas tree and there was coolant steam blasting out of the reservoir. I am started to get SERIOUSLY annoyed, I got a bloody MRI tomorrow morning and the only way I have to get there is to make the Renegade get me there. If it blows up there or on the way home then fine, Jeep won't tow it unless it's undriveable so I might as well!

So when are you going to put this vehicle to pasture?

It's a 2020, it's still fully covered by warranty. Won't be going to pasture until at least its out of warranty. Just talked to the dealer, they're coming to pick up Renny and they're getting us ready a loaner vehicle. They're also opening a case file with Jeep because it's their 3rd attempt to fix a warrantied problem and I think if they fail to fix it on the fourth try we might be eligible under Indiana's lemon law so Jeep will be sending their own engineer this time to supervise their repair.

They're being nice, and this time they're giving us a loaner while it's gone so I'm ok with it. So long as we have something it's cool, I just hate how they'd take it for weeks and act like it's no big deal/inconvenience. First time we took it in they said they didn't give out loaners, I think they might be getting a bit desperate but I'm ok with that. ;)

Oh and I cancelled my MRI and have to reschedule it as soon as I find out when I'll have a vehicle. Annoying, first time I've wanted a medical procedure done in a long time and I can't get it! ARGH!

Jeep. It's a way of life.

Usually the joke would go...

In Soviet Russia, Jeep drives you.

Except with Jeeps, you don't need a Soviet Russia tag line to start it. :p It's just, "Jeep drives you!"

Not sure what it means, but I misinterpreted what was told to me. I heard "start a case with Jeep" but what they said was "it's now a star case with Jeep" which means some form of weird priority bump along with Jeep getting involved. No real clue, just what the tow guy told me as he took it away so I thought it best to post it where I won't forget it. :p

So the dealer called and he got more codes out of it than I did, but the two important ones were the ones I got too. The P1212 code is pretty much just a record of how it's overheating, the P0117 is the bad one where a thermostat is claiming its getting improper voltages. Jeep is still trying to decide what to try first, probably replacing the sensor and the ECU to start. They should have a Compass for us to use as a loaner by tomorrow as I guess STAR report problems can take a while to get done with.

In odder news I got a call about the Wrangler when I was in hospital and the guy told me he thinks it'll be ready tomorrow! :O

No updates, haven't heard a thing from the dealer. We've got thousands of miles on the brand new loaner they supplied us with but zero updates.

I'm not complaining, my wife likes the Compass fine. At least we have a vehicle for however long they take.

Holy shit, your last post (before uh, your last post) was basically 45 days ago. And literally nothing at all?

They could've swapped functionally every part of the car by this point. WTaF?

Totally agree with you, the idea an actual dealer working with the company can''t figure it out is pretty insane. If I get my voice working in the next day or two I'll give 'em a call and tell you the story. :)

It's a modern Jeep, nobody knows how they work or why they don't work. They're like a real life version of Warhammer 40k Ork vehicles. They work because the Orks er Jeep owners believe they work. So if you don't believe enough, they'll stop working. :p

Also don't know if I mentioned the Compass. They lent us a brand new 2022 Compass with a decent/above average trim to use as a loaner until they get the Renegade working. It came with 134 miles on the odometer, I think we're getting up near 10k in mileage. So much efforts, so little results!
