Removing Windows 7?

There's a whole lot of talk in here about installing various software, but I don't think we've really tapped the original problem.

*Ahem
If you don't know whether you have malware or a virus how are you comming to the conclusion that you are infected with a virus or malware.
having very little free mem in win7 is not a definite indication of malware or a virus

First, glad you guys pitch me some good program recommendations. As it was the case, malware or spyware was causing the issues with processor activity and memory consumption. Identified and cleaned the threats. Now, PC sits idle with 600 MB of memory foot print and 1 to 5 percent CPU load. For that tonights beer its in your honor :)

But im in worst TISH right now.

Uninstalled the catalyst drivers to install 10.3. When booted and tried to install them, couldntvinstall the drivers themselves, the log points out that is not identifing the card. So i took it further and used a registry cleaner to remove the ATI entries.

But get this... Windows in unusable. It just starts with the file explorer on. When i close it the desktop is blank, the start button key doesnt work. The only thing i can do is hit crt alt del to shut down the PC.

I know the topic wasnt started with this problem in mind, but if you guys could throw a rope, not to hang myself, just to scale out of this whole :)

Try using the W7 DVD to repair windows?

What video card is it? I haven't tried 10.3 yet, but standard 10.2 doesn't yet support the Radeon 5450, so had to stick with the drivers on the CD for that.

bring up taskmanager
file -- new task
type in explorer.exe

then run system restore

Thanks for the suggestion but it didnt work. Basically since i didnt made a backup sytem restore wont work. All it wants to do is use the CD to reinstall the program.

It a 5800 series part. Had 9.12.

Wonder if i just delete the partition if it would screw up linux grub and the Windows 7 boot up?

I've run into rare cases where driver install packages won't recognize a piece of hardware it should in a system.

In those cases, it sometimes works to Force install (Device Manger, upgrade driver) current or older driver and then use the driver install package.

Or remove driver through device manager. Then detect new hardware. Then install appropriate drivers or do the above. Sometimes you have to manually remove the driver from the hard-drive prior to doing this as Windows might just auto-install the same driver.

There's some other things I used to do, but can't remember them at the moment. And very very rarely in cases like this, something has become borked on the hardware device itself.

SB
