9/13/11. I don't think id's ever committed to a date this early.

another year ? WTF i thought it be a fall 2010 title.

Meh

That boss looks like he's from Project Offset. Looks pretty nice but as usual I suspect PC version may be making him look a little better.

Didn't Carmack specifically say 2-3 quakecons ago in his keynote, that he didn't want to be still talking about Rage in 2-3 more quakecons?

Sigh. Well, I guess a firm date is a start. Pretty sure at one time I thought this was coming out in fall 08 (maybe it was 09) though.

A September release date will probably serve them well though. Just like it has Halo in recent years. Not so much competition as November, plus people coming out of the dry summer looking for games to buy.

Hoping for shakycam footage of the demo.

Even though I wont be short of FPS to play for the near future "Killzone 3, Crysis 2 and Black Ops", this release date makes the game so irrelevant now, epic meh is epic.

At E3 they'd already said it'd be a 2011 title where have you been? :p OTOH my personal expectation was Spring. In fact, in July of 2008:

Eurogamer said:
We asked Willits if Rage is a 2009 game, 2010, 2011, and all he'd say is that it's "not that far out" in response to the last one.

At QCon 2010 they mentioned many of the assets produced in the first two years won't be in the final game. What the hell happened?

The first screenshot looks really great. The one on the right, however, has some ultra low-rez textures on those handrails. :???:

That just means the rails were made from the mid to late 90s.

id is just trying to inject some historical reference. I'm sure.

It's a feature!

Hater. ಠ_ಠ

:p

Looks pretty though to bad offscreens in such conditions always look 10x better than real deal.

Also from D3W.org, someone managed to snag video of the presentation. Unfortunately it's pretty zoomed out. I still don't understand why they wouldn't let the public at large see it.

Makes sense, although I'm sure Carmack's doing some magic even with 8 bits, after all he started it with Quake3. Will be interesting to see if they change this for Doom 4 - framebuffer traffic might not be exactly 50% at 30fps due to the possibility of using more render targets...

Using FP10 on the X360 would maybe complicate the multiplatform approach, just as nao32 on the PS3 would, too. If they can get away without it (and the precalculated lighting certainly helps here IMHO) then it's the better solution.

The Mutant Bash TV Rage game for the Iphone/pod/Pad is out today at 99 cents. Its an on rail shooter set in the same world as Rage.

Has anyone checked it out? It isn't up on the Indian App store yet. How does the engine perform on the Iphone? How's the gfx?

I think by rpicing a high quality shooter at just 99 cents, they are really making the market murky for Indie Devs. People will start expecting bigger and better polished games for 99 cents now. The Big Fishes should not disbalance the market like this, and should stick to some pricing ethics. it becomes difficult for Indie devs to comepete with such a drastic reduce in price. usually a shooter like COD:WAW Zombies or Avatar game etc, are priced at $10 on launch in the app store, and then the price gradually fals over the months to $7, then $5 and so on. By making it available at just 99 cents, they are really messing up things for everybody :( !

No, competition is good - and plus this isn't a console environment, the games that sell a billion copies are quite simple 2D titles like Doodle Jump, Flight Control et al. I don't think some of the more technically impressive titles like GTA Chinatown Wars, Doom Resurrection, and the 3D FPS sell that well.

Competition is good, but upsetting the market is not. It is like if one Day Microsoft says we will sell our next game on the ps3 for $5 !!!! Lets say they can afford it as they have made enough money from their established bussinesses in other fields. But it upsets the market completely as selling a game for less than $50 is not feasible at all for other gaming companies as there are costs involved that need
to be recovered to survive. MS is selling it at a loss, but its other divisions cover it up, but indies developing just games are pressurised unrealistically to price their games at an unrealistic price point. A price point which is impossible. Small devs always suffer from the Big Fishes, but some ethics need to be maintained as all are living in a common environment.

Hows the game? Has anyone played it ?

Played it on an iPhone 4 and the graphics are by far the best I've seen on the iOS platform and possibly any handheld device. I only went through the tutorial, but even though the game is 'on rails' you still use the gyros to aim.

I disagree with your statement about pricing. The one thing I've enjoyed with the iOS platform is the pricing. It's all about the value you get for your $$ and just automatically inflating the price to keep the market the same is a terrible idea. The HD version of the game is $2 and that is a price point right up my alley. Had this game been $10 there is no shot I'd ever purchase it. With that said, if future releases had a price increase and the value was there, I may be more inclined to pay it at that point. Digital distribution models at this point are broken. Much like the Music and Movie industry is struggling through, I don't want the same thing to happen to the game market. Would you rather sell 100k at $10 or 1million at $1?? In a digital model, it's surely the latter.
