Quantum Break [XO] (by Remedy) *large images*

They could have had 1080p/60 if they used Max Payne 3 levels of graphics. But they wanted to push the boundaries, so resolution is a small sacrifice IMO, given the tech they are trying to push

Max payne 3 was a rock star developed title but I get the gist of your post.

Honestly the most recent footage has been hit and miss for me, some scenes are really soft. And DF did just recently show off some of the compromises they had to make (some low-res shadows, short draw-distance, some weak animations, some framedrops and tearing during heavy action scenes outdoors etc.). Perhaps they were just picky-choosy with the footage they showed off earlier on. It wouldn't be the first time someone did this.

It is still a great looking game regardless of resolution. The lighting, character models and anti-aliasing in particular are incredible.

Game definitely looks to be 720p (or at least <900p, hard to define resolution for X1 games nowadays) for the X1 version, some weird dithering/jittering going on with the SSGI as well, could be shadows.

"Are you seriously going to judge a game by looking at tiny compressed .jpgs? Captured from a video stream for crying out loud??
I will wait until the final game comes out, not this beta footage, I mean, remedy said 1080P so stop pasting these low resolution, badly compressed .jpgs and wait for the non-beta version. A lot can change between beta and release you know."

For "Alan Wake 2: The Carnival" they went full 1280*720 no upscale right? They will keep working on the engine even after the game goes gold.

Have to say after seeing some pristine quality Gamersyde clips, the game really doesn't look too special. The environment detail is rather disappointing honestly, low object density, poor texture res (may have 720p to thank for), dithering shadows and low res reflections everywhere. The lighting alone can not save a slew of graphical problems it currently has, if only bump this to 900p it would be much better displayed on the average gamer's TV nowadays >50". On to plan B it is:), gonna bust out my 42" 720p plasma set bought 11 years ago and relive the nostalgia of 720p gaming.
don't do much PC gaming these days if you must know

Yep nothing but praise for this game for pages and pages of this thread, then DF says it's 720p and it's all hate.

To be fair i said many times in this thread that the visual style of QB is full or very visible errors + that it looks very soft. With that said, i'm expecting the PC version to solve some of those issues at a huge perf cost, hoping that i can at least run the game maxed at 1080p with a 970...

Yes people were praising the bullshots, now that real shots are out,Can you honestly expect people to react differently ;)

People were praising the previous demos from various conferences over the last 2 years. These demos were running on Xbox one and had the same image quality as the current version has. Its always been very soft.
The only real change is the character models since the first demo they released. The game has flaws but it isn't worthy of all the hate that has formed pretty much since DF released their preview analysis.

I swear people are so obsessed with pixel count. 2 of the most graphically impressive titles of this gen (Ryse/TO1886) have had sub native pixel counts. Both titles shot for a very cinematic look just like QB.

Ryse/TO1886 also got the same amount of scrutiny feedback... as will any high-profile title. It's the nature of the beast when certain aspects of the game changes during development. If you’re satisfied with it, then their opinions shouldn't matter.

The Order is native 1080p with bars, much like a Blu-Ray films. It isn't affected by scaling.

You also have to consider that not everyone has the same display. Some people play on large 4K displays where anything below 1080p can look very soft. The image is being double scaled.

But for most people playing on average sized 1080p HDTVs, I agree that 1080p isn't essential to be graphically impressive. Ryse and Battlefront are 900p on console and are among the best looking console games. Anything below 900p though looks really soft to me. Even 900p looks a tad softer than 1080p on my displays, but I can live with it.

Reporting what I posted in the DF thread:

Remedy's official response:
Quantum Break’s 1080p output is a temporal reconstruction from four previous 720p 4xMSAA frames. This approach gets us high pixel quality in combination with complex shading and effects, allowing us to achieve a cinematic look. However, varying sample counts between passes and temporal upscaling makes talking about resolution, as it is traditionally understood, complicated in the case of Quantum Break. Since the start of “Quantum Break’s” development, the most important thing for Remedy and Microsoft has been delivering a compelling gaming experience with superior artistic quality. This is what Remedy is renowned for. We’re confident that we have achieved this, and can’t wait to hear what fans think on April 5 when they play the game.
