They could have had 1080p/60 if they used Max Payne 3 levels of graphics. But they wanted to push the boundaries, so resolution is a small sacrifice IMO, given the tech they are trying to push
Out of curiously, do you care at all how it plays?Yes, I'm very happy with that decision given that a PC version is coming. It will look incredible.
Valuable input thanksI knew the extra soft look had to come from something, first thought it was just the low res environment textures or blurry post AA but turns out it's sub native after all and 720p at that! I recall I made a statement earlier about not trusting Remedy's fishy resolution PR and I was right, don't ever trust Remedy confirmed. Those directfeeds are indeed blurry as hell but thankfully the AA does a good job minimizing the jaggies, still hardly a technical achievement at this res.
Can you honestly look at those directfeed and tell yourself it's still 1080p? Just compare any native 1080p game and you'll see how blurry QB is next to them. Anything they say now would be PR spins at best, they might reveal some AA technique or frame reconstruction approach but I really don't think pixel counters at DF can get the margin between a 1080p and 720p buffer wrong. So that explains why it was arguably the best looking game...
Disappointing, honestly kills a fair amount of my hype for the game (if confirmed). I guess I'm that shallow. still a likely buy.
Although originally I figured it was 720...stupendous graphics and all=something had to give, plus Remedy's history. They dont strike me as a boundry pushing technical studio to pull this off at 1080P, whch is why it always seemed odd.
I guess, with each gen they move up a notch! Last gen way under 720P, this gen true 720P! Maybe next gen when everybody's doing 4k they move to 1080.
Ah well, at least Gears 4 is still 1080.
Call me crazy but still hoping for a last minute Remedy correction to DF that it's still 1080 as well (since DF does not seem 1000% sure).
still hardly a technical achievement at this res.
So that explains why it was arguably the best looking game...
You selfish man! I bet tons of console owners just want to play the games on their big TVs so being 1080p native to their TVs is pretty important in order to get a decent iq. I say every console game should strive for the FullHD standard for the current TV and then PC gamers can go from that point on, aim for 2k or 4k if they must.As a PC gamer, I'd love to see every console game running at 720p/30fps as standard. The more you can eke out of the ageing console hardware in terms of core graphics that can then be refined in terms of resolution and framerate on more capable hardware, the better.

Monday is probably the hardest day of the week, and the fact that Winter has given way to Spring will make little to no difference. That being said, we might have the perfect remedy to lighten up the mood. Starting tomorrow at 8:01 a.m. CET, we will propose the first part of our preview coverage of the final version of Quantum Break. On the menu, a full article with tons of content but that's not all. At 10:15 p.m. you will be able to join us for a new livestream where we will show you the first act of the game (minus the first chapter). Hopefully, all we have prepared for you will be enough to ease the wait until the game ships on April 5. Enjoy the rest of the weekend and see you tomorrow!
I think the game actually looks worse in motion. Lots of crawling and popping aliasing and weird halos around objects.Despite the game looking soft though we have to acknowledge that QB looks clean in motion which is a big part of the reason The Order impressed so many. That it does that possibly at a lower than native resolution is very impressive. Even Battlefront had shimmering and aliasing (on both Ps4 and X1), the only other games that i can think of being very clean looking while running at a lower than native res is Ryse and Uncharted 4 MP beta. Ultimately, res matters as it cleans up the image and allows fine details to pop as seen in this promo shot for Quantum Break:
And the actual game running on X1
But i believe more people will appreciate the game looking smooth in motion. We shouldn't be surprised, that's what remedy did for Alan Wake on 360 as well, ditch native res to get a cleaner, albeit smoother, look using 4x MSAA at a lower res than the "standard" 720p. I'm very curious to see how this performs on PC, Alan Wake was a great port.
Edit: Another thing i noticed in the DF video, which points to some sort of reprojection, look at the fence in the background here: http://abload.de/img/1teklv.gif
How it takes a few moments after the player stops moving the camera to have definition.
