The fact that there is more than one chip in a device, even a highly integrated device, doesn't mean much. And "should cover"? Wrong language there/ That's making an assumption and what they did wasn't inquire, it was accuse. They should have said, there's this second IC whose traces are curious.. anyone know what it is? But no, not here.
