[PS3] Uncharted 2

Are you absolutely sure? I kept watching for quite a few minutes. Lots of similar stuff...but not exactly the same. I'll watch again on crushing.

I'm 99% sure. There are different spots where it starts a new loop, so if you moved through the level quickly enough, you might not notice it.

Cool. Very cleverly done though. Eg. Killzone 2's train sequence was very impressive for the post-processing effects, but the loop was about every 5 seconds. Oh and wait...the snow bit - that can't be a loop as you're going round the mountain...and you can see what's ahead of you...

The trolling came in the post he was responding too. Fighting fire with fire.

What trolling in NavNucST3 post? All he did was to say he wasn't that impressed, he also never mentioned PC which became the target when Tha_Con gave a "bite back". Also "Fight fire with fire"? Is this GAF?

And he was saying that most of the best graphical engines on the PC are just tech demos.

Unless you and him are the same account then no. he clearly targeted a specific game series and even put it in context with the engine uppgrade the franchise will receive probably next year.

Ie. Crysis is the best looking game and is a great game. But everything else that's impressive looking isn't much of a game

You're misreading him.

The highlighted part. How does one even come to that result? "Uncharted 2 is graphically impressive But everything else that's impressive looking isn't much of a game". Dont you see how utterly ridicolous such a comment is (insert PC, 360 instead of PS3 game)?

Anyways this is going way OT. Better to let him talk as I think he can speak for himself or better leave it at NavNucST3 latest post.

The loops are not short like they are in Killzone2. I'm very sure they are there. Maybe they are 30 seconds long? I'm not sure.

30 seconds? Come on, doubt it. There's a bridge, then a waterfall, then a different waterfall vista, then a jungley bit. At least 5 minutes long.

The bit around the mountains can't be only 30 seconds long as you can watch the train going round the mountain towards the tunnel...you can see yourself going round the corners. Again 5 minutes at least.

Well considering there are about what...three games that look better than Uncharted 2...if in his opinion they aren't much of games...then that's his opinion. Plenty of tech demos look better than it though.

Well then maybe I misread it. But all I read was "console games don't impress me, never have never will." "You might like Uncharted 2, but it's graphics don't have the wow factor."

Anyway. Bored of this. Wish people could express their criticisms more succinctly rather than half-hearted generalisations. Which bit isn't impressive, WHAT don't you like?

Spoiler:
I don't like the bullet-sponge blue guys, I think they spoil the game (on a gameplay perspective - though I didn't mind them on my second play through...I knew they'd go down after only two crossbows :)

Maybe I'm wrong, but they repeat a lot of the terrain beside the tracks, because you'll pass the same group of buildings over and over again.

Think of it this way, if you left the game running and stood one point on the train, would you eventually run to the end of the track? Of course not. There are definitely segments to the track, and you won't trigger the next segment until you move to a certain point on the train. Unless they are procedurally generating the terrain beside the track, which I don't think they are, they are looping or repeating.

Your supposed to read what the poster writes not make own assumptions taking post out of context by selective words. He clearly stated several times it was his impression, opinion yet this whole discussion for that. And you then defend Tha_Con "biteback" saying he only expressed his opinion in response to NavNuc? So it is OK for some to have opinons but not others? But enough (seems to be Deja Vu vibes right now!).

Don't have the game and its pretty likely you are right and they are looping the track. But the loop could be very long (procedural content, but not generated at runtime). Or it could be "loopless" but force you to advance (lose if you dont).. or the train could reach its target and trigger a gameover (and give you an "AFK for 2 hours" award or something).

I know this is way too early but for the next iteration, how about a deep dive to Atlantis? It's one of the most fabled mystery to our knowledge, a perfect intro for underwater gameplay and discovering another sanctuary unspoiled by modern world. Also introducing the worm hole mechanics by warping or timetraveling in creating opportunity for more complicated plot and varied locales, all with the updated uncharted 3.0 engine

Oooh, Atlantis could be good. But I'll skip the time traveling :yep2:

Not looking forward to the end boss. I heard it can be very frustrating. Hopefully I'll be able to play a good portion of the game tonight.

I found the end boss fairly satisfying as far as bosses usually go.
It's all about staying on the move; Lazarevic is fast. Don't obsess over getting the perfect shot or you'll get a double dose of double barrel to the face! :devilish:

I never noticed any looping in the train sequence but I can't say I was looking for it. Lots of similar stuff but nothing that screamed "I've been here before."

The train level was epic, but then it was outdone just a bit later at the village. This game seems to out do itself at every set piece. The nit picking in this thread is disappointing, but I guess games that get this much positive attention are bound to get sniped, it happened a bunch in the KZ2 thread also.

The only negative thing about the game is Turkish guardians. We're not Hindu / Pakistani dammit!!22!!

Maybe the museum outsourced security to an Indian company. What language where they speaking? I remember one of the guards mumbling something.

All I see is a lot of people playing the game saying it's great. Is there something wrong with pointing out flaws, however minor?

Its definitely a pretty good game but its not the best game of this console generation.

As with all things, it is debatable. But I am comparing to my experience to playing GoW 1&2, KZ2, H3. And UC2 stands head and shoulders above these games in both terms of technical excellence and also the seamless blending of multiple game types. IMHO.

Yep, but I think 30 seconds is underestimating it.

Love that second in-game pic. Looks like a painting :D

I wasn't defending it, I was elucidating that you misread his post. And I obviously misread the other guys posts too. We're arguing about both of us misreading other peoples POV's because they weren't able to express themselves succinctly enough.

Well if you're standing on top of the train you won't be on it long enough to hit the end of the tracks.

The tunnel could be looping, but then, in a tunnel how would you know even if it wasn't?

The jungle seemed varied but it's possible there was some looping there, I'd have to run thru that again as it wasn't something I was looking for.

Coming out of the tunnel though you can see miles into the distance and can see your progression as you go along.

Chapter 16 is the best visual presentation in this console generation so far and by far. Yes, it's a walk around tech demo but god damn it looks amazing. The vibrant colors really help show everything off also. Note to developers, it's OK to use colors! Thanks ND for using them. What I'd love to see a RPG in a similar lush and vibrant fantasy setting (like Oblivion/Fable 2) with that level of graphics. That was my first thought in Chapter 16 and I still can't get it out of my head.

I'm at the last boss now and will post full impressions later but this SP is downright awesome and easily in my Top 3 SP experiences this generation.

Hmm, I checked it today, the beginning of the train scene (did not check the other parts)...if I am right, it takes 3 - 4 min for one loop, which is really cool! Once I had the feeling that the whole rail loop is shaped like an 8, but I am not sure

Lol the great Train Loop Debate

I hope in Uncharted 3 the enemies can't take so many bullets. Really my main complaint about this series (and many other games). Even wearing Kevlar, getting shot by an AK-47 or M4 would do more than cause you to lose your footing

This is true, but the game loses a lot by doing this.

If you don't believe me, purchase 1 hit kill and play it on crushing. It rarely presents more than a challenge. You can simply blaze through entire sections doing nothing more than blind fire.

VVVV

RobertR1 - I thought the pistole was actually great if you took opportunities to get close. A double tap would kill all mid / low range enemies, and put a serious beating on the heavies. You can hit a shotgun heavy with a double tap from the pistole and knock his helmet off, then finish him up with a rifle.
