[PS3] Uncharted 2

Anyone know how many chapters? I'm on chapter 8, and chapter 7 seemed to be extremely short.

For anyone that is good at shooters, I'd recommend hard from the start, because so far it isn't very difficult. Normal would be way too easy.

I've heard 20-something.

Oh, I played some co-op last night with my brother. I was disappointed that there are only 3 co-op missions, but they are fun. It seems that Nepal is considerably easier than the following mission. We easily beat Nepal on normal, so we decided to try the next mission on hard, and we were absolutely annihilated. Dropping back to normal gave us a good challenge. Because we screwed up early on, we weren't able to complete it. Hopefully there will be some free additions.

Meh, third person cover mode makes even crushing to easy if you know how to aim.

A few thing I noticed that are different (I just replayed UC1).

- Drake looks a bit different in the face, he look pointier.
- The pistol is less reliable at a distance, it used to be a hand held sniper gun.
- Reloading is on R2
- Grenades do not have to be equipped, just use L1 and L2, which is tricky at first.
- The script is better, I laughed multiple times in the first hour. It is more mature, Drake isn't as goofy.
- Melee is different, now you have to time some sort of counter or finishing move, I am still getting the hang of it.

I used grenades way more than I did in the first game. The variety of options in throwing them (trajectory, aim mode, free throw) minus the inaccuracy of the gyro control has made them far more useful.

Is there any balancing in matchmaking in the final game? That is, can you still get sides of wildly varying ability and not even balanced across the players either?

Wasn't it always an option even in the first to choose whether you wanted to use gyro or not? Can't remember. I put it back on gyro anyway, precise enough for me! But yeah, I also think that the game actively encourages you to use more grenades at certain point in the game at least.

Got the game today and played to chapter 12. Took me just under six hours. This suggests to me that the game will be about the same length as its prequel.

I use melee way more in this game, not only because it's sometimes necessary, but also because it's easier and more fun this time around. Also spent half an hour in multiplayer afterwards and had a lot of fun. Even came out the winner on my side in one match.

EDIT: oh and did anyone get the twitter thing to work? I've never gotten it to work so far, not in the beta and now not in the final game.

A NaughtyDog dev accidentally leaked that cross game (voice) chat will be in the next firmware update:
http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/14/rumor-ps3-cross-game-chat-in-next-firmware-update/

"I think they wanted people to have fun and ejoy the show since all dead players can talk to each other no matter what team you are on. But I will suggest it anyway. Not to mention that the next PS3 firmware update is going to allow cross game chat. So if players use that instead of in game communication then they would also be able to communicate enemies positions."

Knowing Sony's track record in meeting schedule, we should probably expect a slip ^_^
But it's good to know the feature is coming. There has been persistent rumors about the feature for a few months now (may be a year).

Just reached chapter 12. I wish the platforming and puzzles offered more of a challenge. They seem to be set pieces built to show off the graphics. Those sequences are very well directed with the static cameras, and it gives a chance to show off some of the really impressive environments, but I'm a gameplay over graphics guy so those sequences seem to drag on; I'm just going through the motions.

Hands down, there is little competition for this game in the graphics department, so it is nice to see the environments and effects showcased a bit. So far, Chapter 6 is my favourite
the Nepal level with the helicopter battle. I wish I hadn't watched that video now
.

All in all, this is easily the best game I've played on PS3. I haven't been a huge fan of any of the other exclusives, excluding Ratchet and Clank. Even Uncharted1 was a letdown to me in many respects. But this one really is a game that you shouldn't miss. If you don't have a PS3, find a friend that has one, go to his place and pull an all nighter if you have to. Or rent a PS3 for a weekend and blast through it.

So far, I'd say it ranks in my top single player action games this gen. It's hard for me to choose, but this is among the best. It could deviate for better or worse, but I think it'll be consistent till the end. My only complaint in combat is that it's too easy, so far, and I've noticed enemies will kill themselves with grenades a little too much, but that definitely won't ruin the enjoyment.

Is this game shorter than the first one? The chapters seem to be flying by.

The fact that we had unbalanced matches in the beta is not an indication of lack of balancing.
Party system, pool of available players and their proximity to each other all affect possible balancing.

I wonder if we will get it in 2009. I wouldn't use it, but it's a check box feature.

Singly biggest missing feature, very useful especially when you are playing games that are not from Insomniac.

I'd personally like to see hibernation more though.

The twitter thing's been disabled Arwin, though there's plans to patch it back with a limit on the frequency of tweets.

No, just for chapter completions. But for trophies and such it should still work.

so for the time being we’ve disabled Twitter updates on chapter completions.

The online multiplayer balancing isn't going to work perfectly until we've got many more players online. Yesterday there were 7500 or so when I tried it, which isn't that different from the beta. I'm sure by next week we'll see much larger figures.

Finally! had my run through up till chapter 5 and it's already the best PS3 game I've ever played:). I can find 100 different kind of ways to describe how godly the graphics look, but the gameplay especially the stealth and traversal gun fight are really what grabbed me this time. It just feels so seamless and smooth.
Borneo
looked amazing!

ultragpu, IMHO, Chapter 5 and 6 are not the best levels in U2.

I am in Chapter 16. The location that one of the reviewers raved about at the beginning of his article. There is only one word to describe U2: Z-O-M-F-G [Faint].

Hands down, the best production. There is no equal. I am almost crying here. Shifty, you need to experience this. The video trailers do not do justice to the real game.

I thought Demon's Souls could not be outdone this year. The gameplay floored me from the get go. The art direction is fantastic. The online experience is most innovative.

BUT Among Thieves changed the game. It pulled elements from multiple genra and dissolved them into a seamless experience. I am also blown away by the vivid game world. Have to put down the controller and post this short note.

The platforming, gunplay, melee, stealth, story, character development and visuals all work together to deliver a fast-pace experience. I don't think NaughtyDog needs to make the platforming or puzzles more difficult/complex. This is just right.

I got stucked a few times but the automatic hints helped to solve the puzzles and maintained the pace. I think it is very important for a game like Uncharted to keep the pace. A repetitive or tricky platforming mechanism will break the natural flow of this movie-game. :)

Going back to play more U2 now. Will post later.

Love hearing that Patsu! I'm gonna have hell of a time with this baby tonight, I'll take this game slow, thorough, and never miss out any corners or vines all the way to the end.
