[PS3] Uncharted 2

Be careful there ! Take care of yourself first. NaughtyDog has enough fans to support them. OTOH, if you don't look after your own needs, few people will.

You can always wait a little longer to play a cheaper U2.

No, ditch your other games and get them later. You'll want to have U" as soon as it comes out :)

That was actually an option. ;) But it's not a competitive mode. It's really there for the specific purpose of messing around. You should google Machinima, or watch the Uncharted 2 demonstration of the full thing in a video a few pages back.

I think you can do everything with two, depending on the difficulty.

Well yeah, we tried Hard first so I know that was tough. ;) Still think you can do it with two though, but you just have to be really good. We were still pretty much beginners.

Oh I've done it with others, you just like being rogue rather than working together :p Prob good I don't have a headset...I think I'd be shouting (joke). Well i do have a headset, but I don't use it. Tee hee.

I know what Machinima is for, but we weren't making a video...we were just walking around lol.

I like the blank wire-mesh map lol

Co-op on hard? As far as I can see only normal and easy are available in the beta. Normal can be done with 2 players, but you will need 2 good players. One of the reviews mentioned that the co-op levels are quite difficult in general. Crushing should make for a very good challenge.

If your looking for more players? I've got the same problem. Add me, PSN name is: cornsnake.

Complete Normal, you get Hard. Complete Hard you get Crushing.

Dipped my toes in for the first time last night. Just a quick DM. I haven't seen a set-up like this before. What I actually mean is something as well presented. Two teams of five (random people). Real sense of teamwork which I've only ever experienced in KZ2 before this. Some other newb followed my around and we were ganging up on the opposition.

Great gfx. The aiming feels a little floaty for me (pistol and sniper rifle) but that's because I'm used to Warhawk's delicately balanced aim assistance. (Yeah, I suck at gaming.)

Unbelievably fun. Glad I actually used my beta code and can't wait for the full game.

Yay, we can play :D Get you off that damned Warhawk!

Ah, thanks. Actually finding a Hard game is difficult though.

Those enemies wearing all black are starting to annoy me. Even if they approach you from the front, Drake is all too willing to turn his back towards them and be choked to death.

You can set up a game in machinima mode. I did that with deepbrown though we had friendly fire off, and it's probably more fun with that on ;) (rocket launchers still work though). But this basically puts you in a map with no enemies, and you are free to explore (or to make home movies ;) ).

Sorry I couldn't join you and deepbrown yesterday. You caught me when my son was on my back.

I forgot about Machinima. Can't try the demo until a few hours later. I downloaded it to both consoles. If I played in the office, I have to wait 24 hours to play at home.

*Sigh* I guess so.

Yes, the set up is very easy and comprehensive.

KZ2 elements: Can hear enemies' chatter when you're close to them. Map voting. Sticky party.

R2 elements: Very easy match making and party forming, party chat.

There're probably more. I only played like 7-8 games so far.

EDIT: I thought we could adjust the sound input device settings without quiting the game, but I couldn't seem to do it.

Seems pretty cool. I prefer the co-op modes over the vs modes. Graphics are unique and there are some cool effects. There is something I find inconsistent about it, where some things appear to be attempting photo realism, like the water, but the colour palette and textures are very colourful and vibrant and have a bit of a painted look to them. The quality of everything is top notch, I just feel like some things don't really go together. Overall, the presentation is impressive.

Co-op play was fun, but I couldn't really communicate with the other players. I can't figure out how to work my stupid Playstation bluetooth headset. I noticed that it is very sensitive and any background noise in my room will activate the mic. Ended up turning it off because I couldn't figure out where I could set the sensitivity level. I tried to use some menu option for eliminating feedback, but it gave me an error message.

I believe U2 inherits from U1's art style. The textures and characters are hand painted: http://www.ripten.com/2008/01/17/ri...iew-part-1-background-and-character-creation/

Patrick: Did the actors have any impact on the character designs? That is, did you scan their faces in a similar way to Ninja Theory for Heavenly Sword?

Richard: Nope, not at all. Every character in our game was hand sculpted and hand painted from scratch. No scans of anything. That is one thing that I think Naughty Dog really liked about what I brought to the table. I try to create my characters with an artistic touch rather then trying to mimic reality. I think it also helps avoid that harsh “uncanny valley” feel that a lot of games are falling into. That mentality really spans across our entire team.

Everybody at Naughty Dog creates all their work from scratch without any scans. That is one reason I believe our game feels somewhat like a painting in a stylized universe rather then a recreation of reality.

Yeah, I know they're painted. That's why I'm saying some of the photorealistic elements are at odds with the more colourful surreal elements. It's a very minor gripe because the overall effect is still very very good.

Doesn't the water just reflect the painted characters and textures ? Everything there is supposed to be painted. It's just that they look very realistic. ^_^

Yeah, Uncharted's artstyle has always been inconsistent. Cartoony style doesn't match with good lighting and high res textures, but what can you do.

Not so easy. Those words are mine and mine only, since the days of UDF.
what's wrong with you?

Sorry, I thought you were being sarcastic at my expense. I actually really like the lighting. The thing I find kind of weird is the depth of field and motion blur. It's done really really well, but for some reason I just find it weird with the painted look. The water looks really good, but out of place for me, for whatever reason. I think if it had a more blue colourful look, it would blend in better.

Be quick with your trigger finger, get yourself a Desert Eagle. It increases the teamwork I think.

I see what you mean, and you are absolutely right in their combination in the game. But whereas you see it as inconsistent, I quite like the mix. I feel it fits together hand in glove personally. I like it and prefer it.

As for the water...it obviously differs on its location...with UDF having around four different types of water. I personally like it at the U-Boat section where it was reflection the green from the trees and the orange from the sunset - the cartoony feel and realism mixed perfectly there.
