[PS3] Metal Gear Solid 4 *spoilers*

Where's my in-game music on my i-pod?!?!? Its been a long time since Firmware 2.4 came, and we still don't have music from my HDD on my i-pod which was incorporated for the very concept of in-game custom music !!! Any reports of when and if it is coming??

Bah... if they are going to patch the game, I'd rather they do a Director's Cut to clean up the cutscenes (and then add some new ones :p), plus relaunch MGO. Their last attempt was marred by insufficient server planning.

Story-wise, not visual-wise. IMHO, some cutscenes are too long-winded but I can't remember which ones :D

Kojima also mentioned that he left some out of the final game. I would like to see what else is there.

We'll get that when MGS4: Subsequence comes out.

Never had that impression. For a manga style exposition they have just about the right lenght.

I'd love to see a Director's cut version as well though, with added cutscenes or bonuses, though i have a feeling we are looking at the one and only release of the MGS4.

All of them! We've been playing MGS4 for our Tuesday Fun. I say playing, but literally last Tuesday we got about 15 minutes of play time (the retro dream-sequence) in an hour-and-half's 'fun'. Tell a lie, we made our way through the base too. The rest was watching cutscenes, poorly acted and appalling scripted and badly directed IMO, at least an hour's worth. The game proper is good and entertaining, though has issues, but if Kojima wanted that much story I don't understand why he didn't make it a movie instead. My mate reckoned the cost is why. IMO this is not a good blend of story-telling cutscenes versus in-game story-telling.

Yes, now I remember. Mei Ling's brief and Naomi's death could be shortened in Act 4. The Akiba ones in Act 1 and 5 can be trimed too. The Beauties' stories can be made optional (played only when user chose "Yes, I want to know more"), etc.

The Metal Gear brawl is awesome though. I replay Act 4 mainly for it. :D

You didn't finish ? You are missing out then. Kojima did quite a few innovations throughout. You can skip most of the cut scenes like I did to experience the game once ^_^

I think Act 4 and 5 have more. 1, 2 and 3 are somewhat okay for me. But Act 4 has the most variety of gameplay :D

I asked him about Act 4 because he mentioned "the base". The theme song in Act 4 is amazing, btw.

There is a good reason I didn't fall asleep here despite the long cutscenes

Well, i don't know what cutscenes are you used to watch, but MGS4's cutscenes are the best cutscenes in the industry both artistically and tehnically.
They are as professionally directed as a movie can be and as professionally acted as a video game can be. I should know, as i am a videographer (cameraman and editor) and in my professional opinion the MGS4 cutscenes are light years ahead of any other video game and the direction of photography and camera direction is easily on par with any high caliber movie out there.

You wanted them to be shorter ? Well, sucks for you man, i guess you were mistaken MGS4 for your Hollywood summer action flick which is big mistake 'cose the game is a manga with Hollywood caliber production values which is an entirelly different story (and storytelling) :)

Nope. Still at the beginning of Act 2; if the wife and kid let me use the TV tonight, I will give it another shot.

The only cutscenes you don't want to skip are the mission briefings. Use the little robot to scout for in-game items on the plane while the characters talk.

You know on the topic of cutscenes I just replayed through mgs2 and felt that it had just as many if not more cutscenes then mgs4. Well the mission briefings in 4 prolly push it over but still.

To me, the cutscene flaws are rather minor compared to the overall package. But there are people who are more impatient and picky than me. ^_^

I thought the cut scenes were the best thing about this game  although I admit it was kind of funny that one of my game sitting only included watching a cut scene, and it was longer than 15 minutes by far hehe. The actual gameplay was just a placeholder to see the story.

 God bless you my friend. They are indeed very pretty; but by the gods, I want to muck around with the guns and kick some behinds with the Metal Gear. It would have been something if the beauties tagged along too, but they kinda fainted along the way and stopped appearing. This is the only real flaw in the game by my measure. >_> <_< >_>

That's I think the issue. 'Manga' (anime, surely?) isn't everyone's taste. I'm sure for fans of the style MGS4's cutscenes are fabulous, but for fans of computer games who aren't into this style, like me, they just get in the way of the sneaky-shooty action.

I don't think it's a matter of manga preference. Manga is simply a form of media and art. It encompasses MGS4-style story telling, Hollywood-style trillers or even toddlers' bedtime stories. For MGS4, I think Kojima simply ran out of time editing the story. Given more time and resources, I think a MGS4++ (or MGS4--) will emerge a better and more accessible product.

The game certainly pushed the action game envelope. More people should enjoy this.

I think Kojima made it very clear in one of the interviews that He thinks that with this final installment of MGS, the fans want volume, more story, longer cutscenes and more Codec conversations(though it was seriously cut down this time).Atleast that is how he interpreted fans' expectations and that also justifies the way the cutscenes are in the game
