PS3 Linux Hacking Challenge Over

I'm more interested in what services he was running.

It's not exactly difficult to secure a server with just a httpd, especially if it's just showing static pages.

Loading from ISO sounds good for those who have the original, but some PS3 games already offer the option of installing some bits to the harddrive.

For pirating, however, SONY will always find it convenient to distribute games w/ firmware updates, or as their doing now, offer/unlock compelling features with each firmware update to keep you always updating security holes.

As I understand it, that ISO loader is currently being tested, much like how this particular PS3 was being hacked. The latter attempt ended up failing, so I would suggest withholding any conclusions until the former attempt has yielded actual results.

aww! cute kid :D

Thats nice to know about the PS3. Not that I would use one for web browsing, but I know someone that will and thats good news for him  *calls the guy now*

So theres no built in pop-up / adblocker on the PS3's webbrowser?

God knows what's in it and what's not. The browser is an abomination. The browser is... horseshit.

The recent update added zooming. Not text-size-increasing, mind you. Real scaling, which makes text blurry and headache-inducing. This new feature also has the lovely habit of makiing the mouse cursor dissapear.

And speaking of cursor, with no back, forward or reload buttons to speak of, one must keep the sixaxis at hand to navigate anything. While I must say that the browser navigates well with the controller, that doesn't serve as much consolation to those of us with a real mouse and keyboard hooked up.

I am glad the browser is there tho. It makes it easy to download most any media file strait to the PS3's XMB. It's a very nice feature that way. But until it gets some more development it's not the couch-surfing solution it could be.

My top 2 complains about the PS3 browser are:
* Repetitive alert for unrecognized plugins (Should be able to dismiss forever, or for current session)
* Fix keyboard entry text field (so that it's resizable visually to accomodate large posts... like forum posting)
Other than these, it's actually usable for general purpose browsing (like reading B3D fora).

That sucks. Haven't tried zooming. My PS3 is on my table top (only about 2 feet away).
In general, text size can be changed using the "View > Character Size > +2, +1, Normal, -1, -2"
option. However if the page is "locked down" using CSS, then the text size may not be changeable.

I agree. Here're some mouse and keyboard navigation tips when SIXAXIS is not in your hands.
* Using keyboard only: Press F1 to bring up the menu, then the arrow keys to refresh, go Back or Forward
* Using mouse only: Right click to bring up the menu, use scroll wheel or move your mouse to refresh, go Back or Forward

Yap ! Come on Sony... solve my top 2 gripes first. :p
