PS3 Endless Saga image..

cgi . Unless you really think a mmorpg is going to have graphics like that .

IN a mmorpg you can have hundreds of characters onscreen at once at any second .

Most likely the cgi opening

If i were Sony someone was showing me CGI of that quality i'd fire them.
The thing is realtime, there are far too many obvious "realtime hints".

Might not be in-game, more like a cutscene, but definately realtime.

I've seen a video clip including this frame somewhere, that video was definitely from some cut-scene.
Could be a game engine rendered though, but in game lod would be less.

It could be a suped up cutscene shot . But as I said this is a mmorpg and mmorpgs wont look like this on these consoles . They simply will be brought to thier knees once a raid starts at anything close to this lvl of graphics .

This could be as simple a render target  the new dirty words

yeah like london-boy said, its too low quality to be cgi. you could have plenty of characters of like that if you tweak the LOD well enough. look how close the camera is to the character, in-game you probably would never be that close.

it could be a realtime cut-scene.

plus this is next gen, not the ps2's FFXI, we really dont know what to expect from next gen's MMORPG's just yet.

and also...the big obvious statement on the website helps...
UNREAL ENGINE 3
REALTIME SCREENSHOT
;)

..anyways, im more impressed with the lightning and depth of feild than the actual model.

I beleive its cgi or a render target. You don't . That is fine . We will find out soon enough

The problem is that CGI would look a lot cleaner than that. I mean look at it! You can even see DX8-level banding on the armor shading! And that's after the lack of extremely high poly counts, the jaggies, the lighting (which is ok for realtime, but for CGI is crap).

Get used to it jvd. Games will look this good next-gen. I mean people aren't spending $400 dollars on a new machine for nothing. And what makes this CGI anyway? Is it because it actually looks good?

The developers themselves said that it's realtime. I must say for the record that I will now stop soft-bashing UE3. That teaser looked great.

Somehow that looks more like a painting than a video game to me (the woman, not the background). Something about the colours look a bit odd to my eye. A bit too shiny perhaps. Looks great though.

I concur. It looks like a painting. However that might be deliberate, using hand-painted textures for example. I think it'd need some pretty clever shader work to get the painter-like lighting around the lips though.

Mckmass the game will be playable at some point soon with in the next 6-8 months i would say. Lets wait and see if actual game shots look anything like this .

I believe this is a retouched ingame shot, like they painted over a screenshot.

Compare that to this...

Image quality aside, it just doesn't look the same to me. The hair, for example, looks flatter and more modelled in the smaller pic..

Maybe you're right, though. Is there a higher-res video anywhere?

Look at the top picture's ear. There's a definite two-triangle corner there, yet with smooth painted features. I reckon it's a hooky painted picture mapped onto vectors!
