PS3 Eject Button Not Responding

The eject button on my PS3 (CECHL, 80GB fat model) doesn't seem to respond at all right now. Is there an explanation other than hardware problem? Is there some obscure setting somewhere that disable that button to prevent accidental ejection?

I can still eject disk with controller, but the eject button isn't working. It so happens that my warranty still has about 2 weeks left.

No setting anywhere that I know of that disables the button, I'm pretty much 100% certain no such setting exists, at all. Hurry and send it in while you still have warranty coverage...

The buttons on the PS3 have always confused me. Sometimes they only work when the console 'feels like it'.

Never had an issue with the buttons. The only thing I encountered were delays when the system was either busy or when it crashed

I moved my PS3 once and it's eject button quite working. I discovered that it was too close to an electrostatic ball lamp. The static discharge from the lamp was interfering with the PS3's touch buttons. Once I moved the lamp, the PS3's eject button started working again.

Mine stoped working on my 40gig model. They wanted $100 to fix it and i just said screw it.I rarely use the ps3 now a days anyway.

The 'button' touches a plate underneath it to signal the touch of your finger. Has your system been shaken or suffered some sort of jolt that might have pushed internal components apart? I just took my PS3 apart yesterday in order to clean the fan and re-apply thermal compound, and noticed the situation with the touch controls. I'm not saying this is the case for you, just wondering if your system may have come under any sort of physical stresses like that. If so, you may be able to self-repair if you feel brave enough to delve in.

I got my PS3 back from Sony and it's working well now. However, the strange thing is when the technicians got my PS3, they called me to ask about the issue because the buttons were all working fine in their hands. In the end, they just gave my PS3 a routine check and cleaned up the dust inside.

I still don't know what made the difference. Could be a few bumps on the road. I didn't move it around at home though. I also put my PS3 right behind my LCD monitor. So, if static electricity can disrupt the button, it may also apply to my case. The buttons seem to work by electric conduction. I press on it with plastic and nothing happens. I press with metal and it turns on.
