PS2 vs. Xbox - Battle of the Exclusives (Gamerankings.com)

When I am playing a game online, I dont want crap popping up trying to get me into another game.. handy, sure.. annoying? oh hell yes..

Know what I want? dedicated servers with more than 64megs of memory, that can handle more than 8 people before lagging(which is what Xbox live promised me and never delivered).

The fact is that the Xbox will probably end up having more 80+ rated exclusvies at Gamerankings.com this holiday. If that's not relevant to you then move on. Go play 2-player SSX3 or something :)

Great logic. More games -> more exclusives -> more good exclusive... But that's not only happening on Xbox, but also on every other console that ever has graced this planet... More volume, more good exclusive games in absolute numbers...
So I don't really get what you're trying to say here :?

well, i don't think any of the systems have 90+ GOOD exclusives.

but yeah, if we go by numbers, then PS2 will surely win. the number of AAA games on PS2 is pretty high.

GC has fewer, but those it does have are gems. Real gems.

What are the real gems on Xbox? all the games u listed are "good" games. surely not great. not until HL2 or Doom3 or Halo2 come out...

Also, u're getting the people wrong... someone mentioned Rainbow3, then i was the one who started talking about time exclusives for ViceCity and such, but never even mentioned Rainbow3. Of course, the same logic applies. Difference is, Rainbow3 is one of the "good" games. Certainly not AAA in the caliber of Zelda, Metroid, Ico, Jak2, GT etc...

It's a given that Xbox does not have many games that are on par with the "class" in those games (and the many more i missed).

Again, this is coming from someone who will buy an xbox and all the multiplatform games for it because they generally look and sound better than the rest (pro-scan and DD).

Oh, by the way, just to clarify, online play on ROTK for PS2 was scrapped for the european version. nice hey, once more us euro gamers got it right up the a$$.....

She's not talking about quantity, but quality, in other words about games scoring 90/100 or higher...

ooooooohhhhhh  sorry.... i did think 90 AAA games were a little too many

Not really Lisa. What games are you talking about? The big games this generation are nearly all on Xbox - MGS2, GTA3, Halo, KOTOR, Splinter Cell. With the exception of some good first party stuff from Sony and Nintendo and some good Japanese RPGs, the PS2 and GCN aren't exactly tearing it up.

Btw, it shows how little you know about Xbox Live if you think that game invites are in any way intrusive. What I'm realizing is that someone in some forum somewhere told you guys that EA Online was comparable to Live and you actually believed them. At least stop talking out of your asses.

I can give Sony their due, but this holiday their exclusvie lineup is VERY weak. Now please stop wit the "but, but, but ... 2 years ago FFX came out" nonsense. Sony's lineup looks good next year though with MGS3 and GT4 right around the corner...

attitude: out!

discussion: civil.

First you said that NOW Xbox has more and better exclusives. Which by the way is not true (check any website, IGN has 45 9+ rated Xbox games, 40 GC and 85 PS2, while Gamerankings.com can give you a vague idea of the same). If the Xbox in your opinion has the better games for your personal tastes, that's another issue, but i think it can be pretty safe to say that PS2 gets the gold medal here.

Then you changed your argument (probably because you had nowhere left to go with the previous argument) and asserted that most of PS2 AAA titles are multiplatform....

Guess this is another case of "Can't-get-it-right-itis"...

Don't really care about the discussion, I'm gonna enjoy my Xbox and Ps2 games whether i talk to u about it or not.... just pointing out your incoherence...

oh so now we are talking about "Games to come"
well, when these games actually get here, and get reviewed, then
there is cause for such discussion, but with the exception of Ninja Gaiden, Xbox's lineup is very uninteresting.. I am betting on Fable and B.C. as both being more of Molyneux hot air that does not deliver.

You realize that none of those games is in fact exclusive? You're saying that all AAA games on PS2 are either multiplatform or niche... But where 're those exclusive Xbox AAA games?

*Remembers Black & White - shudder*

A bit OT: are gamers today so young that they don't remember B&W? Because that's exactly what I think when I saw the premises for Fable and BC.*shudder**shudder*

Disclaimer: Apologies to those who loved B&W. I'm just expressing the majority's opinion.

Johnny. While I want to. I'm trying hard to agree with you. It's just not happening. This is too funny to not comment.

You claim the PS2 isn't "exactly tearing it up" but then quote what are universally considered two PS2 designed, marketed and percieved games as the biggest in your line up of XBox games (which, technically they are after they got the games over 1-2 years since PS2). These being MGS2:SoL and GTA3.

I admit you can steal on a technicality some PlayStation thunder by associating the monsterous sales and reviews that the PS2 versions of MGS2:SoL & GTS3 recieved - but lets be honest with outselves.

I can give Sony their due, but this holiday their exclusvie lineup is VERY weak. Now please stop wit the "but, but, but ... 2 years ago FFX came out" nonsense. Sony's lineup looks good next year though with MGS3 and GT4 right around the corner...

And eYeToY & Madden2004 together will outsell all your "superior" titles - so it goes.

Yep absolutely:

90% plus exclusives from GameRankings:

XBox = 4
GC = 8
PS2 = 10 (I included GTA:3 and Vice City since they were exclusive for so long).

Well, all I'm saying is that most of the PS2's great exclusives of the past are now available on Xbox and in some cases enhanced (GTA3).

What I find funny is that people can't just admit that Halo, PGR, Amped, Top Spin, Crimson Skies, JSRF, Sega GT, Panzer Dragoon Orta, KOTOR, and so on... are great games. ie. That the Xbox has nice exclusives too.

I'm also just pointing out that the PS2 is starting to lose some steam in the exclusives department. You have to admit that Jak II and SOCOM II aren't really much compared to previous PS2 holiday lineups, whereas the Xbox has a more substantial new lineup.

As for 90%+ rated exlusives (rounded to the nearest percentage point):

Xbox (6): Halo, KOTOR, PDO, WSB2K3, Crimson Skies, Top Spin

PS2 (10): R&C:GC, GT3, SOCOM II, PES2, VF4:Evo, PES, DMC, VF4, FFX, ICO

Cube(6): MP, Zelda, VJ, SMS, SSBM, F-Zero GX

When you actually look at the years the period from Nov 2001 onwards when they were all in the marketplace, the PS2 sinks to 6 titles just like Xbox and Cube.

I guess in the end I'd just say that statistically reviewers consider the three platforms top exclusives to be very comparable. Then it just boils down to tastes.

Upcoming: Mario Kart, Twin Snakes, GT4, MGS3, Halo 2, Ninja Gaiden, PGR 2, and RSC 2 all look to be shaping up nicely.

It'll be interesting (as a gamer) to see which platform actually ends with the highest rated games. Obviously, consumers will pick the PS2 because of great Sony branding, but this wasn't intended to be sales thread anyway. :)

Yeah, if you count games, don't count out EyeToy. I have the PAL version of EyeToy Play and my family members like it. (They had never bothered with my consoles all over the years, my son will play Kamen Rider sometimes, and that's all)

LisaJoy said:
hey now, if GTA3 isnt exclusive, then you cant count Halo or KOTOR

Why? Because Halo and KOTOR on the PC? I've never liked the idea of Xbox console exclusives going tot he PC, but we had a poll about that here some time ago and I was basically the only person who felt that the PC as a platform should be judged equally with consoles (in terms of sales, exclusivity, etc).
