PS2 Soul Calibur II

Gorgeous !!! Can't find another word for it.

+1 maskrider.     The increase in details and clarity is......

720p = 1280x720, that is as good as current top PC gaming. Xbox untapped potential rockOXOR!.

Now i shall wait for SC2 and hope that Halo2 does 720p.

Maskrider, can you tell us what version, in your opinion, looks nicest when you run them in the normal TV resolution (as I don't have a HDTV that's all that matters to me :( ), and are there any problems with framerate in any of them? Out of curiosity, is the 720p mode in the XBox version running with no framerate hickups?

I don't have standard video output cables for X-BOX, the only composite cable that came with the box has been modified to a VGA cable by myself. I use the component AV pack all the time. That's why I cannot do DScaler captures like I did with PS2 and GC.

And I didn't play that long with the XB version comparing to PS2 version. Didn't notice lags with the couple of minutes I played on 720p.

I am still so much into FF X-2.

So many games, so little time, and so little money, damn !!!

But at 720p, the game will only use the center 4:3 portion of the screen during gameplay, this makes me wonder.

you mean the game uses the central 960 columns (x720) ? this could explain why the view in the 720p shots looks zoomed - if they kept the frame-to-screen mapping (i.e. preserving the on-screen proportions), shrinking the view window on screen would make things look zoomed in that view window.

could you provide us with some extra observations, marskrider?

I was just thinking if you can switch all three to 480p and compare that picture / performance. Basically, I use component cables for picture quality, but have only 480i TV.

Yes, it only uses the center columns for a 4:3 aspect ratio, but it will use all columns for movie.

I have taken a couple more shots for just this problem

After setting them all to 480p and switching from the inputs and compare (my video processor has 4 component inputs), I have the following feelings

Jaggies : The best is X-BOX, then PS2 and the worst is GC
Texture sharpness : PS2 is the sharpest, then X-BOX and GC and they are similar in my opinion and X-BOX has a slight edge over GC

I will say depending on your TV set, PS2 version may be the best when running interlaced, followed by X-BOX and then GC.

Saturnman:
Can you turn on the 720p mode with one of those genuine VGA box for Xbox (I have the Kgasper one)?
Marconelly, can you please relay to Saturnman at GA the following:

The Kgasper box is a transcoder (DC had the only genuine VGA box, i.e. native signal), but it should it still work from what I've heard. If you need help setting it up, the following forum probably has the necessary information you'd need:
http://www.xboxhacker.net/forums/index.php?s=9bec44ab573444c06f7e197d810b5d5a&act=SF&f=9

Also, you could really help out AmonCMB at GA by please pointing him to this forum about his inquiry on the Blaze VGA PS2 adapter. Several users in this forum who have tested it, like london-boy and Nick Laslett, could give him valuable advice on its performance.

Here's a Beyond3D link about the Blaze adapter for AmonCMB:
http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4534&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

And here's AmonCMB's GA request for help, on the third page:

Holy crap those 720p pictures look amazing! Its a shame the game doesn't play in wide aspect though..
